The Early Career Team at Workiva adopts a hybrid approach to create meaningful experiences for interns while keeping their "work where you work best" policy. They leverage partnerships with local schools to offer in-person opportunities like office tours and interview days, complemented by national virtual events such as info sessions and a "Crack the Code" workshop for software engineering interns. Diversity efforts remain school-agnostic, partnering with organizations like ColorStack, NSBE, HSPE, and WayUp. They ensure managers undergo training before recruitment and set clear expectations upfront to provide a positive and quick interview process for candidates. The team continues to streamline its sourcing and recruitment efforts, identifying ways to improve processes for 2025 and beyond.
Excellence in Tech Innovation
Workiva leverages advanced tools and strategies to continuously enhance its hiring and internship programs. Automated responses ensure timely communication with candidates after they apply. ChatGPT supports crafting inclusive and engaging job descriptions, while Workiva's AI capabilities streamline data sharing with hiring managers and leadership. A new Intern New Hire Community, built in-house via Workiva Support, fosters engagement and belonging by offering resources and connections for incoming interns early on. The company utilizes Yello for event management and interview day sign-ups but is exploring new technology to further upgrade these processes. Additionally, virtual connections with diverse candidate pools are strengthened through strategic partnerships, aligned with the “work where you work best” policy.
Excellence in DE&I
Workiva's early career team fosters diversity and inclusion through strategic partnerships with organizations such as ColorStack, WayUp, NSBE, SHPE, and SWE. Interns are encouraged to engage with Business Employee Resource Groups (BERGs), which are highlighted in a dedicated summer presentation to enhance their sense of belonging and community. A nationwide recruitment strategy aligned with the “work where you work best” policy ensures access to a diverse pool of students from various backgrounds. Additionally, self-led degreed learning pathways and mentorship opportunities provide interns with opportunities to enhance their skills and career development during their time with the company.
Excellence in Internship Programming
Workiva’s internship program is designed to be impactful, foster growth, engage, and develop early-career talent. With a “work where you work best” philosophy, interns enjoy the flexibility to work remotely, on-site at any of Workiva’s seven U.S. offices, or in a hybrid model. The program evolves based on feedback, incorporating unique opportunities like on-site experiences for software engineering interns and part-time roles that allow students to see their projects through while continuing their education. Networking opportunities include one-on-one mentorship, employee resource groups, and team engagements. Interns benefit from curated learning paths, mental health resources, and insights from senior leaders, including intern-specific events with the CEO.
