Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting
While navigating another year of a virtual environment, ViacomCBS's Campus & Early Career team continued their efficient approach to meet students where they are. The team ensured that there were informational sessions that matched western and eastern time zones where students could tune in. In addition, ViacomCBS hosts the annual Multicultural Media Summit, containing a full week's worth of workshops, panels, and Q&A sessions, as well as one-on-one time with recruiters to amplify their applications. Lastly, the team partners with various organizations to bring curated interview and preparatory content to each of these communities.
Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience
The Campus and Early Careers team at ViacomCBS strives to provide a robust and positive candidate experience year-round. ViacomCBS values the practice of having a full year recruitment cycle. The team fosters an inclusive experience through their Multicultural Media Summit, function-specific informational sessions with Q&As, intake calls with the recruitment team, and an open inbox candidates can reach out to, and expect a response. To ensure a closed loop, the team reviews each application, and follows up with a survey to better understand and enhance the candidate experience after each recruitment cycle.
Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion
Campus and Early Career at ViacomCBS is the baseline of the company; serving as a diverse, entry-level pipeline for talent. This is accomplished by focusing efforts on maintaining and building relationships with organizations championing underrepresented groups, such as Girls Who Code, T-Howard Foundation, Students Rising Above and more. The team is also invested in relationships with HBCUs, HSIs and public universities across the United States. Lastly, ViacomCBS has created a number of initiatives over the year, such as Content for Change Academy, to bring folks from non-traditional backgrounds into the ViacomCBS world.
Investing in Impactful Internship Programs
The Campus and Early Career Recruiting Team has seen year over year how hard ViacomCBS interns work, which has a personal impact - especially during a pandemic. In response, the team implemented a ‘Wellness’ pillar to the foundation of development for the interns to hone in on the importance of taking care of oneself. Aspects of this pillar include Wellness Office Hours, Journaling Sessions, fitness challenges, gratitude practice as well as the promotion of an internal, company-wide wellness resources. The team has seen and heard first hand how this pillar has contributed to the promotion of a more psychologically safe environment.
Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent
ViacomCBS aims to Attain, Develop and Retain top talent for ensured long term success. This begins with a robust introduction to all of the learning and development opportunities available, as well as one-to-one mentorship with a leader in the organization. New hires are given the opportunity to join a myriad of Employee Resource Groups, workshops and much more. Outside of internal opportunities, ViacomCBS also offers an MBA Rotational Program, allowing folks in the space to be hired in a director level position and rotate through the business for two years, with the end goal to secure a director+ position by the end.
