Recognized for Excellence in Every Campus Forward Award Category
UnitedHealth Group received a Campus Forward Award for Excellence in Recruitment Strategies, Tech Innovation, Candidate Experience, DE&I, and Internship Programming.
Receiving an award for each category reflects UnitedHealth Group's unwavering excellence and commitment to providing the best experience for the next generation of talent. UnitedHealth Group invests in innovative recruitment strategies, cutting-edge technology, thoughtful candidate experiences, inclusive recruitment practices, and standout internship programs. See below for the highlights of their strategies in each one of these categories.
Excellence in Recruitment Strategies
UHG employs a hybrid recruitment strategy, utilizing both internal and external data to identify key schools for in-person engagement. Beyond career fairs, they develop robust strategies to build meaningful relationships with students and staff through dinners, career development workshops, and student organization meetings. UHG has also developed an Ambassador Program where former interns represent the company on these key campuses when their internship ends. Recognizing the exceptional talent across various schools in the US, UHG also uses digital tools like RippleMatch to promote their roles to students who match their desired skills profile.
Excellence in Tech Innovation
The UHG Early Careers team leverages a robust tech stack to enhance the candidate experience and drive efficiency. This includes sourcing platforms like RippleMatch, LinkedIn, and Indeed; event management and data capturing tools for virtual and in-person events such as Radancy and QR codes; and an integrated CRM for pipeline tracking and engagement. They use HireVue for digital first-round interviews. Post-offer, they incorporate a virtual engagement center and a community chat platform to help new hires receive information and build networks.
Excellence in Candidate Experience
The period between offer acceptance and start date is crucial in the recruitment process. UHG has developed a "keep in touch" strategy to maintain contact with incoming interns and full-time hires. Using feedback from recent hires and former interns, along with external benchmarking data, they crafted a strategy that includes "A Day in the Life" and "Prepping for Day One" events, a platform for new hires to connect before starting, and consistent, personalized outreach from recruiters. This approach supports candidates' transition to employees and reduces offer reneges.
Excellence in DE&I
Along with attending flagship conferences, chapter events, and career fairs, UnitedHealth Group has strong partnerships with local chapters of many national organizations such as Prospanica, Reaching Out MBA, and National Sales Network conferences etc. UHG sponsors interns from INROADS, an international, nonprofit organization that places talented college students of color in internships with companies across the nation. UHG also utilizes a variety of online platforms as Ripplematch, LinkedIn, Handshake etc. to ensure an inclusive sourcing strategy.
Excellence in Internship Programming
UHG's internship program offers a dynamic first-day experience, both in-person and virtually, to help interns connect. They provide tech support for seamless equipment setup and set clear expectations for the summer. Interns work on real-world projects, with some programs using a "shark tank" model, where groups solve problems and present solutions to leaders, iterating based on feedback. The program culminates in a final presentation. Interns attend a three-day event at the corporate headquarters featuring networking, social responsibility, leadership exposure, and fun. Their goal is to convert interns to full-time hires, ensuring high-performing talent receive offers or are connected with other opportunities, if their business unit cannot convert. As a result of these efforts, UHG saw a conversion rate of 82.8% from last year.
