Recognized for Excellence in Every Campus Forward Award Category
Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions received a Campus Forward Award for Excellence in Recruitment Strategies, Tech Innovation, Candidate Experience, DE&I, and Internship Programming.
Receiving an award for each category reflects Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions' unwavering excellence and commitment to providing the best experience for the next generation of talent. Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions invests in innovative recruitment strategies, cutting-edge technology, thoughtful candidate experiences, inclusive recruitment practices, and standout internship programs. See below for the highlights of their strategies in each one of these categories.
Excellence in Recruitment Strategies
The University Relations Team at Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is small but mighty! The team's success at attracting thousands of student applicants each year is directly attributed to support from senior leaders, hybrid recruitment efforts and key institutional partnerships. The Toshiba team makes their presence widely known at surrounding institutions through student mentorship programs, classroom presentations, resume/mock interview boot camps, career fairs, coffee chats, advisory board memberships (even with Toshiba's President and CEO!) and more. Support from senior leadership team to get heavily involved on campuses has been crucial to growing the company's brand.
Excellence in Tech Innovation
In an ever-advancing world, the Toshiba team recognizes the importance of staying on top of technology to locate and attract the best talent. Senior leadership recognizes this, and really listens and values the needs of the team. For example, the importance of having a strong applicant tracking system. The team invested in a new ATS last year, which has phenomenally helped streamline their process in a more efficient manner. The leadership team is also very supportive of the team exploring different tools to help find top talent for different positions. Attracting early career talent is very different from mid-to-senior talent, so having the support to explore new tools like RippleMatch will be crucial as Toshiba continues to build their internship and early career program. Outside of utilizing tools like these, our University Relations Business Partner has spoken at several conferences within the past year on AI and it's impact on future work, how students can safely use these tools, and how career services team members can use these tools as well.
Excellence in Candidate Experience
The University Relations Team heavily prioritizes the candidate experience because they've been there - They get it. Everyone knows how challenging and even frustrating an unclear application/interview process can be. Whenever the team meets with great students, they encourage them to join the student listserv to be alerted first of job openings and any open house events held at Toshiba's HQ in Durham, NC. While the team may be interviewing students, students are also interviewing the team! It has to make sense both ways. Furthermore, job postings include clear information on when/what/where a position will be. This is crucial because Toshiba offers internships throughout the year (Fall, Spring and Summer cohort starts). From there, when positions go-live, the team immediately begins reviewing applications and move fast. All offers must be out within 5-6 weeks of a job being posted. The team works with their hiring managers to ensure a smooth and timely process for all candidates. The interview process is a short, two-step process. First, the team holds an initial phone screening to cover things like expectations and salary (Toshiba doesn't make students wait until the end of the process to know the pay - nobody wants that!). Students who pass the phone screening will then have one virtual interview with the hiring manager (typically about 30-45 minutes). From there, offers are made. The team also provides feedback to candidates who were not selected as to why. This way, they can work to improve something or perhaps gain a missing skill, and try to apply again for a future semester. The most rewarding hire is a hire who didn't get it the first time, but put in the work and got an offer the second or even third time.
Excellence in DE&I
The Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions team is proud to support various DE&I initiatives related to early career hires. Outside of partnerships with key institutions, the Toshiba team also is actively engaged in student mentorship programs such as Military, First Generation, Graduate Female and other underrepresented groups. Toshiba also holds an annual event at their headquarters in Durham, NC inviting students specifically from HBCUs to be able to meet team members from various functions, hear from senior leaders, take tours of the facilities, and learn more about early career opportunities.
Excellence in Internship Programming
The internship program at Toshiba Global Commerce is very unique. Not only does the company offer a Full-Time Summer Cohort Program every year, it also offers Part-Time Fall and Spring Cohort start dates as well. Toshiba is always hiring! The benefit of having 3 start dates throughout the year means more opportunity for students to apply and join the team. Another benefit of the program is the ability to extend and remain on the team for several cohorts; for instance, an intern can start during the Summer Cohort and extend and remain on part-time during the Fall, Spring, etc. cohorts. Outside of the unique program format, Toshiba also offer interns professional development sessions, engaging social events, a full Leadership Series (personalized meetings with C-Suite Leaders), networking events, and leadership opportunities for growth. One leadership opportunity example is becoming an Intern Ambassador, or a "voice" of their fellow interns who work directly with the University Relations Business Partner on planning various engagement activities for the remainder of the intern cohort. Toshiba also offers a school-to-work pipeline program for interns in their final year of study. During their final year of study, interns in the pipeline program receive full benefits, tuition reimbursement, and a full-time offer once they graduate. The pipeline program is a fantastic way to reward and recognize incredible and deserving student interns at Toshiba.
