The University Relations team at Sysco is steadfast in their commitment to ensure there is a at seat at the table for talent that can come from anywhere and maintains an inclusive approach with hybrid in person campus recruiting and an agnostic approach to recruitment. The team and their business champions are intentional about engaging with campuses that are local to multiple Sysco sites, as well as student organizations and conferences that align with their programs to provide some students with intimate opportunities to network with experienced Sysco colleagues and their former interns in early career roles. They continuously leverage former interns --now turned full-time colleagues and student ambassadors that volunteer to assist with recruitment strategies and provide feedback on ways to continue to enhance the candidate experience ensuring that all candidates have meaningful interactions through various media and channels.

Virtual tools allow their team to connect with students nationwide, even those they can’t meet in person, expanding access and representation. They also host engaging online events such as Q&A sessions, info sessions, and meet-and-greets, creating meaningful interactions without geographic barriers. These innovations not only improve efficiency, but also help them deliver a faster, more inclusive, and personalized hiring process.

The university relations recruiting team at Sysco provides a thoughtful and welcoming candidate experience by providing each selected interviewee with a 30-minute Q&A session before interviews. These sessions help candidates understand internship expectations, daily responsibilities, project details, and interview preparation tips, while also sharing testimonials from past interns. After offers are extended, candidates receive monthly touchpoints, including virtual meet-and-greets with their cohort and leadership, interactive trivia to learn about Sysco, and ongoing engagement to build confidence. Additionally, they gather feedback through new hire surveys to continuously improve the recruiting timeline and process.
