Recognized for Excellence in Every Campus Forward Award Category
Sysco received a Campus Forward Award for Excellence in Recruitment Strategies, Tech Innovation, Candidate Experience, DE&I, and Internship Programming.
Receiving an award for each category reflects Sysco's unwavering excellence and commitment to providing the best experience for the next generation of talent. Sysco invests in innovative recruitment strategies, cutting-edge technology, thoughtful candidate experiences, inclusive recruitment practices, and standout internship programs. See below for the highlights of their strategies in each one of these categories.
Excellence in Recruitment Strategies
The University Relations team at Sysco understands that talent can come from anywhere and maintains an inclusive approach with hybrid in person campus recruiting and an agnostic approach to recruitment. The team and their business partners are intentional about engaging with student organizations and conferences that align with their programs to provide students with intimate opportunities to network with Sysco colleagues and learn about their business. They are dedicated to continuously improving their recruitment strategies to ensure scalability and enhance the candidate experience ensuring that all candidates have meaningful interactions through various media and channels. This approach aims to provide valuable information about Sysco, its recruiting processes, and early career program paths.
Excellence in Tech Innovation
Sysco’s University Relations team is leveraging a variety of technology in the recruiting process starting with posting to Linked In and other specific early career job boards that enable them to expand their reach. Once selected to move forward, candidates can complete the first round digital interview at their convenience, enabling them to move faster in the process without the hassle of scheduling. They also communicate with candidates via Text Recruit which delivers messages including interview reminders via the preferred method of communication for Gen Z talent.
Excellence in Candidate Experience
The Sysco University Relations understands the investment of time and effort candidates make in finding an internship that is a mutual fit. They make every effort to make sure each interaction is filled with robust communication, from the recruiting collateral that communicates important dates like when applications open, to their intern interviewee Q&A session that communicates the timeline for the remaining steps in the recruiting process, when offers will be extended, and how to stay connected with Sysco.
Excellence in DE&I
Sysco’s University Relations team understands the importance of being inclusive in their search to find talent. Their core school roster includes HSIs, an HBCU and other schools with meaningful diversity demographic data. Furthermore, they are also partially agnostic so they always consider candidates from schools beyond their core. They expand their diversity recruiting reach through sponsorships and participation such as the National Sales Network Student Conference, Women Impacting Supply Chain Excellence Symposium and local NSBE chapters. If offered a position, the entire intern cohort is allowed to select from any of Sysco’s colleague resource groups for a mentor.
Excellence in Internship Programming
Sysco’s internship program provides opportunities to work alongside dedicated colleagues to understand the role each plays in bringing Sysco's purpose to life – 'Connecting the World to Share Food and Care for One Another! ' Through this immersive, hands-on experience, rounded out with a capstone project, they gain valuable insight into daily challenges and the importance of successful cross-functional teamwork bridging their academic journey with real-world experience. Supply chain interns rotate through the full “life of a case” cycle, while technology interns work on software solutions for real business opportunities. This is mixed well with development gained through lunch and learns, the exclusive executive speaker series, and social and community service events – all yielding their best year yet at an 85% offer return rate.
