The Highlights of ServiceNow's Approach to Early Career Hiring
Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting
ServiceNow capitalized on their early investment in a digital recruiting strategy to focus on persona-based engagement that helps the team create curated content based on specific needs (first generation, diversity, etc.). This resulted in the global team hosting over 300 events and engaging with nearly 6,000 students across fall 2021. This tailored approach included developmental workshops, inspiration board techniques, motivational speakers and a Clubhouse event. The team utilized online tools, such as Canvas and Handshake, to reach a wider audience in addition to revamping their Early in Career landing page. In addition, the team expanded their outreach through participation and partnerships in diversity conferences and organizations like Grace Hopper Celebration, AfroTech, Hispanic/Latino Professionals Association, and HBCUConnect and connected more deeply with all women’s colleges, HBCUs, and HSIs to allow for meaningful connections with diverse, university talent.
Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience
ServiceNow makes the world work better for everyone. The team aims to identify the “talented but overlooked” and drive diverse talent into the recruiting experience. They accelerate building a more diverse and inclusive culture that creates belonging and connections across their teams and communities around the world. With the continuation of the pandemic, ServiceNow invested in a candidate-centric experience that included deepening relationships through full lifecycle recruiting, shorter and more impactful interviews, and personalized preparation sessions such as their Finance Rotational Program Open House. This candidate-centricity extends beyond their interview process into various development opportunities for student job seekers.
Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion
Diversity, inclusion, and belonging is a key priority at ServiceNow. ServiceNow believes diversity and inclusion are table stakes. Belonging is the breakthrough. ServiceNow’s Early in Career team believes in enabling this for their company and their customers. They do this through a variety of workforce development programs and partnerships internally such as Generation USA, Creating Coding Careers, and Network Kinection as well as externally through their NextGen program, and other key initiatives like their Benedict College software academy and deep partnerships with Boys and Girls clubs. Belonging doesn’t stop once someone is hired though. All of their Early in Career development programs include thoughtfully curated content and multiple opportunities to engage and join their belonging groups.
Investing in Impactful Internship Programs
ServiceNow hosted its 2nd completely virtual internship program in 2021. Over the course of 12 weeks, they hosted one of their largest classes to date with a global satisfaction score of 99%. With a focus on social impact, community building, and professional development, ServiceNow interns participated in a variety of virtual events including an executive speaker series, fun events like a chocolate tasting, and workshops on a variety of topics, including diversity, inclusion and belonging (DIBs) and a low code/no code hackathon. The team also created virtual coffee chat networking opportunities and group interactions with previous interns that have returned to ServiceNow.
Supporting the Growth and Development of Early in Career Talent
While several of the business units at ServiceNow, like finance, sales, and solution consulting, were already offering rotational or role-based training programs specifically for their incoming full-time employees, the Early in Career team began our first cohort of the Launchpad Development Program in 2022. This global foundational program will provide a full development experience for all incoming full-time early in career employees, supporting their first 18 months and cementing their skillsets and success for the future. With a focus on embedding Early in Career new hires quickly within the organization, providing the power skills and career ownership support to set them up for their future at ServiceNow, and creating robust networking opportunities globally, the team was excited to launch this program in January 2022.
