The Highlights of Schlumberger's Approach to Early Career Hiring
Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting
Schlumberger’s University team focused on professional development series and conferences as well as student organization partnerships to support recruiting early career talent. Schlumberger hosts a series of online webinars called SLB Insights that showcased different career opportunities available and allowed students to ask questions to the recruiters and employees. Schlumberger also proudly runs a Campus Manager Program, that allows dedicated employees who want to take an active role recruiting at their Alum the ability to build and foster relationships with University organizations and prospective students.
Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience
Schlumberger’s University talent acquisition team is dedicated to finding and recruiting top talent that will drive the energy industry. As such, they are committed to creating a positive candidate experience through personalization and efficiency. Schlumberger’s team hosts a variety of events like Coffee Chats, Employee Personal Stories sessions, Professional Development webinars and conferences that allow candidates to meet with recruiters and current employees to learn more about the culture, role, and opportunities. This last year the team also implemented automated notifications for interested candidates, so they can understand the recruitment process better and their status.
Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion
Schlumberger understands the importance of early engagement with students to build lasting relationships. In the United States, the regional chapter of Connect Women, one of their global employee resource groups, is organizing STEM workshops and virtual mentorships for girls enrolled in the ChickTech: High School program. Additionally, since 2020 Schlumberger has been organizing a diversity and inclusion focused conference with one of their other employee resource groups, Black Organization for Leadership & Diversity, or BOLD. This conference, called Building Resources for Inclusion and Diversity for Graduates of Engineering at Schlumberger, or “BRIDGES” for short, invites students to different sessions on resume building, interviewing skills, how to choose your career, and how to get involved with employee resource groups.
Investing in Impactful Internship Programs
Schlumberger’s internships are excellent preparation for any role in the energy technology industry and beyond because they offer rigorous training, a supportive culture, and the opportunity to work on real projects. Every internship offers some of their industry-leading training. What students do will vary depending on their internship. Students may do an intensive period of off-the-job technical training when they join or can experience a combination of on-the-job training and specific seminars related to their role. Whenever a student joins Schlumberger, their training and experience will be designed to help them develop skills needed to be successful during their internship and give them a foundation for their future career.
Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent
Graduates are an essential part of the future of Schlumberger. Schlumberger hires thousands of talented, driven graduates every year and give them the responsibility and support to make a difference to the business from day one. Early career hires benefit from world-class training, work on important projects straight away, and play a key role in the global community. Schlumberger is the leading provider of technology and services to the energy industry, and they are defining the boundaries by unleashing their talented people’s energy.
