Software engineering candidates benefit from the "Pin It To Win It" series, which demystifies the interview process and expands the talent pool, where machine learning candidates join virtual events to explore culture and projects. Additionally, Pinterest offers an 8-month Early ID program for first and second-year college students preparing for internships. This year, Pinterest hosted an annual open house at headquarters for local students and fostered relationships with student organizations through tailored on-campus events and conference participation. The recruitment team also utilizes Veris Insights to track metrics and gather feedback, continuously aiming to enhance each recruitment season.
Excellence in Tech Innovation
The University Recruiting team uses technology to boost results and efficiency. By hosting the "Pin It to Win It" virtual series, they can invite students from all over the country, reaching a wider audience. The Early ID program is also virtual, helping Pinterest connect with talent nationwide. With the adoption of a new CRM tool, they've improved sourcing to reach more diverse candidates. Their virtual approach also allows them to engage with more guest speakers and attend additional career fairs. Plus, they make sure every student gets a personal follow-up after applying, creating a more inclusive and effective recruitment process.
Excellence in DE&I
To attract a diverse range of candidates, the University Recruitment team has forged strategic partnerships with national conferences, student organizations, and core schools, including HBCUs and HSIs. Coupled with school-agnostic preliminary sourcing, these efforts have significantly increased applicant diversity. The team also hosts tailored virtual events for underrepresented talent to be prepared for different technical roles Pinterest proudly showcases how university hires have grown into Employee Resource Group global leads or even built their own teams, reflecting the company's dedication to nurturing the career progression of their talent.
Excellence in Internship Programming
Pinterest’s internship program offers a deeply impactful experience for early career talent through a combination of personalized support, professional growth opportunities, and engaging activities. Interns set clear goals from week one and receive continuous guidance and feedback from dedicated mentors and managers. They benefit from exposure to leadership during executive coffee chats and participate in professional development sessions tackling key topics like imposter syndrome. The program’s flexibility, aligned to Pinterest’s PinFlex work model, allows interns to work where they choose with intentional gatherings for on-site collaboration with their teams. Social and cultural events, such as Makeathon (company-wide internal hackathon) and intern-led talent shows, foster innovation and creativity. Participants receive ongoing support post-internship which is exemplified by the success of their new grads.
