Their robust on-campus engagement includes influencing and developing students at minority-serving institutions. Participation in national conferences broadens their reach, fostering personal relationships. They prepare students for recruitment and develop leadership skills and industry knowledge. The team leverages AI to build and maintain a talent pipeline, engaging students before and after events. Their “Discover PINK” externship program targets early collegiate talent from HBCUs and HSIs, offering a four-day onsite experience. Additionally, the team was creative and utilized Dynamics 365 for personalized automated messaging. These messages, scheduled over time, keep pipeline candidates engaged and reduce offer reneging. This creates a seamless, engaging, and personalized journey for candidates. The result is increased team efficiency, expanded talent pools, and improved candidate engagement. This enables the team to manage larger candidate volumes and make informed hiring decisions, ultimately leading to more successful hires.

The Early Career team focuses on candidates met through strategic recruiting channels, such as on-campus events, ensuring follow-up within a few days. Early collegiate candidates are captured in Owens Corning's AI platform for future opportunities. AI-driven personalized messages are sent from offer acceptance to start date, providing frequent updates. Candidates can join a GroupMe chat to connect with peers. Each candidate offered a role is assigned a mentor or buddy. The team hosts live calls to address questions and offers location packets for those relocating prior to their start date. This comprehensive approach sets candidates up for success and crafts an informative, thorough hiring process.

Owens Corning’s D&I initiatives for early career talent emphasize creating a welcoming and supportive environment. This year, the early career team launched “Discover Pink,” an externship program offering experience and development to early collegiate students from HBUCs and HSIs. The recruitment strategy also includes targeted outreach via platforms like RippleMatch, inclusive job descriptions, and bias-free hiring practices. Once onboard, the talent benefits from mentorship programs, professional development opportunities, exposure to senior leaders, and engagement with employee resource groups, fostering a sense of belonging. These initiatives highlight Owens Corning’s commitment to an inclusive workplace.

Excellence in Internship Programming

Owens Corning’s internship program ensures interns are valued and gain career-enhancing experiences. From personalized emails upon offer acceptance to pre-start connections with leaders and buddies, the program provides comprehensive support. Interns also benefit from a GroupMe chat for peer connections. Upon starting, interns engage in meaningful projects, leadership exposure, and development and networking opportunities. They participate in a community event with the Executive Committee and can learn about and join an Employee Resource Group (ERG) through the company’s ERG Day. Interns feel heard through experience surveys, which provide valuable insights. They can apply for full-time positions in the early career development programs or return for subsequent internships.
