Multi-Faceted and Thoughtful Approach to University Recruitment

MKS Instruments leveraged a 3-tier school system (Active Engagement, Engagement, Passive Engagement) this year in its campus planning initiative. This approach expanded the number of schools MKS could impact while being mindful of the bandwidth of the team. For Engagement schools, MKS is facilitating campus events and career fairs while partnering with student organizations. This has allowed MKS to maximize its impact on campus while growing the brand with a broader audience and continuing to focus on key partnerships with diverse student organizations. The team has expanded the type of programming offered to campus partners including site tours, intern panels, and career fair preparation.

Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

To attract top diverse talent, MKS Instruments works with student organizations and national partners from NSBE, SHPE and SWE at a regional level. To become an employer of choice the campus team works with the student groups to find out what they are interested in and what they would like to see from this partnership. This customized strategy has ensured that every school and every student group is treated individually and the team has seen a very positive response. To retain this amazing talent, recruiters maintain a relationship with candidates by conducting check-ins to ensure their needs are met. To solidify MKS Instruments' commitment to inclusion, all interns are invited to attend a Q&A panel with the Global Manager of DE&I and DE&I events.

Impactful Internship Program

The MKS campus team is lucky to have investment from the CEO and business leaders across all functions. In addition to monthly virtual events, mentorship, monthly newsletters, interns at MKS Instruments also meet with executives such as the CEO, John Lee, for Q&A presentations. MKS has received rave reviews from the interns that this unfettered access to the CEO is rare. MKS flies graduate interns to one site where they present a group and individual project to the CEO and Executive Vice Presidents. After the presentation, MKS hosts the interns, their managers, and the Executive team to a networking dinner. Additionally, the team has begun implementing 3 check-ins throughout the summer to track the intern’s progress and ensure that they have an impactful experience.
