Excellence in Recruitment Strategies

The Student Programs team at MITRE takes a dynamic approach to sourcing and recruiting early-career talent by addressing both immediate hiring needs and long-term student development to meet future workforce demands. They attract students by demonstrating MITRE's commitment to their growth, such as producing four distinct workshops hosted by MITRE technical staff and delivered to eleven different student clubs, primarily targeting students underrepresented at the company or in STEM fields. Additionally, the team engages in capstone projects at universities, partners on micro-credentialing programs, and collaborates on research with student teams at select institutions. This multi-faceted strategy ensures a diverse and well-prepared talent pipeline for MITRE and the broader workforce. The team also leverages social media platforms to spotlight students during and after their internships, partnering with universities to amplify their reach when showcasing students from those institutions.

Tech Innovation

Excellence in Tech Innovation

MITRE incorporates QR codes at all events, from workshops to career fairs, allowing interested prospects to easily share their resumes. MITRE recruiters then utilize Phenom to identify and communicate with top talent from these events. Top candidates are matched using both AI and the system’s capability to search for the right skills and experience. The hiring process has been fully automated to enhance the candidate experience, and MITRE is currently developing an online onboarding journey for new hires. Additionally, MITRE has created a dashboard to review year-to-year trends, which helps inform the following year’s program. Glint pulse surveys are also conducted throughout the interns' employment lifecycle.

Excellence in DE&I

MITRE is committed to addressing the underrepresentation of Black and Hispanic individuals in STEM fields. To create equitable opportunities, MITRE offers targeted programs—Cyber Futures and Artificial Intelligence Futures—designed for students in their Freshman and Sophomore years in college. Internships serve as a launchpad for students from colleges and universities that lack the resources of large flagship engineering schools. The first half of the internship focuses on building critical skills through mentorship, workshops, and training, while the second half challenges students with real-world projects that allow them to apply their learning. By providing students with both the technical expertise and practical experience necessary for success, MITRE helps level the playing field, enabling them to secure future internships and launch careers in STEM fields.

Excellence in Internship Programming

Last year, 93% MITRE Interns answered the end-of-summer survey question “I had a great experience at MITRE” with a 4 or 5 out of five. They feel this way because they are looking for an employer that is vested in their development. One way that MITRE does this is by offering Summer Learning Tracks. Interns are paid eight hours that they can use to learn about one of four offerings—Artificial Intelligence, Embedded Security, Introduction to Data Analytics or Learn to Fly a Drone. It begins with a talk from experts, hands-on learning and a final challenge to test their newly acquired knowledge. The Summer Learning Tracks, along with the work that they are doing on impactful, critical project teams, make for this great summer experience.
