Maximus takes pride in employing an inclusive, equitable, and regulatory compliant strategy in sourcing / recruiting interns and early career talent. Beyond strategic partnerships with target schools, the recruiting team’s methods include a hybrid mix of virtual and in-person activities such as information sessions, panel discussions, career fairs, and conference presentations. Events like resume and interview workshops support candidate experience; also they host special meet & greet sessions addressing company culture and connecting with employees who are alumni from HBCUs, HSIs and a range of minority serving institutions. Additionally, for the internship program specifically, multiple hiring manager training sessions are conducted to assist in successfully navigating the recruiting process and to help prepare meaningful learning experiences for the incoming summer cohort.

Tech Innovation

Excellence in Tech Innovation

Maximus is embracing technology to improve the results and efficiency of our program by strategically utilizing AI tools in our recruiting process to improve our interview questions, job descriptions, and job posting campaign content. Maximus will continue using digital tools in helping to record workshop sessions, share attendee poll insights, and summarize meeting notes to focus on interacting authentically and in real time with target audiences. Maximus seeks to engage a broader community of diverse applicants via multiple external recruiting platforms like Handshake, WayUp and HBCU Connect to share career opportunities and conduct virtual events.

Excellence in DE&I

Maximus believes in equitable practices, opportunities for growth, and career paths based on how the company’s employees want to evolve – regardless of differences. The Campus & Early Careers team partners with the DE&I department to recruit and retain employees reflective of the clients and communities of people we serve; especially those in marginalized groups, such as Individuals with Disabilities, People of Color, Women, LGBTQIA+, and Veterans. These unique differences are the building blocks of the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives that contribute to Maximus’ success. Once a candidate is hired, several Employee Resource Groups and other initiatives create space to embrace social justice, celebrate gender and racial equity, and foster acceptance and belonging for all employees.

Excellence in Internship Programming

Maximus' Internship Program is an on-site and virtual, 10-week paid (with benefits) experience to nurture early- talent into potential leaders. It starts with a customized onboarding process that immerses interns in company culture, equips them with essential tools, and provides visibility among senior leadership, including the CEO. For 2024, 79% of the intern cohort identified as diverse, and achieved an 81.8% retention rate for eligible participants, with over half converting to full-time roles. Interns contribute meaningfully to the company with resume-boosting projects, while attending professional development workshops, and engaged in executive networking activities. Access is also provided to career-readiness support, panel discussions, LinkedIn guidance and ERG events. The program empowers interns to make a significant impact and prepares them to thrive in their future careers.
