Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting

Faced with another year of virtual recruiting, the Emerging & Campus Talent Team at LinkedIn dove deep with three target HBCUs to increase their diversity pipeline, launched Coach[in], a mentorship program for students pursuing STEM degrees at San Jose State, and hosted various virtual info sessions, virtual career fairs, and open houses via inclusion recruiting partners such as GHC, MLT, etc. The team also leveraged new key words to source diverse talent on LinkedIn Recruiter to continue to build a strong diverse slate of candidates for the business. Lastly, they expanded the tracks for their apprenticeship program REACH, which has increased the number of non-traditional talent in the organization.

Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience

The Emerging & Campus Talent Team at LinkedIn understands that a standout candidate experience is essential for connecting with top talent. That's why they go above and beyond to ensure that students have a good experience interacting with LinkedIn from the initial application all the way to offers being extended. A few ways the team at LinkedIn creates this positive experience is through tailored interview prep sessions (ex: CodeShop), consistent and tailored messaging for all students in the process, and offering open houses and info sessions where students can join to learn more about LinkedIn and their opportunities.

Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion

Emerging & Campus Talent has a unique opportunity to really impact the future diversity of the organization, and that is why the team at LinkedIn is so passionate about finding and connecting with a diverse range of students across the country. To recruit a diverse slate of candidates, the team has forged new relationships with HBCUs, launched a new program called Coach[in] with San Jose State (a local HSI). They also expanded their apprenticeship program REACH, as well as participate in virtual career fairs and info sessions with national diversity-focused organizations such as GHC, MLT, AfroTech, Thurgood Marshall, etc.

Investing in Impactful Internship Programs

At LinkedIn, interns make an impact on the company, team, and their local community through work on real projects and opportunities to get involved with philanthropy initiatives. In its 2nd year of virtual programming, the intern program at LinkedIn offers community-building opportunities, speaker series with executives, events with Employee Resource Groups, and opportunities to give back to the community through Investment Days (Inday). These components have made LinkedIn's program a meaningful experience.

Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent

One of the opportunities for Emerging Talent at LinkedIn is the growing REACH program. REACH is an apprenticeship that creates opportunity for every individual with the passion, potential and drive to develop or restart their technical career. Candidates who get hired into Linkedin's REACH program are full-time employees participating in a multi-year program where they can gain real world, on-the-ground experience in their technical area of choice. Other program dynamics include participating in additional onboarding, career-focused programming and training, team mentorship and support, and dedicated weekly learning time to independently develop their skills.
