This reflects Kroger Company's unwavering excellence and commitment to providing the best experience for the next generation of talent. Kroger Company invests in multi-faceted recruitment strategies, thoughtful candidate experience, inclusive recruitment practices, and standout internship programs. See below for the highlights of their strategies in each one of these categories.
Excellence in Recruitment Strategies
Kroger has established and implemented various innovative methods of attracting, recruiting, hiring, and retaining great early Generation Z talent. The company has hosted countless campus take over days for all majors, created retail management cohorts, hosted exclusive interview days, held career panels, engaged in classroom SWOT analysis, job shadowing opportunities, led store and manufacturing tours, and attended tabling events. Kroger has also established multiple seats on employer advisory boards. Collectively, the company has been able to further establish its brand and build a robust talent pipeline.
Excellence in Candidate Experience
As an intern and new hire at Kroger, there are several key measures put into place to create a strong candidate experience. All new hires (including interns) are assigned mentors. Associates take advantage of tenure leaders who have a wealth of knowledge, experience, and exposure to the company. New hires can lean on the expertise of their mentors at any time. In addition, associates can take advantage of the company’s 100 plus associate resource groups. These groups focus on professional development, leadership, community service, diversity, and overall networking. Associates also learn skillsets that enhance their professionalism via tutorials and continuing education. The company offers qualified associates funds to pay for such curriculum.
Excellence in DE&I
Kroger's DE&I initiatives for early talent are highly inclusive, aiming to attract, retain and grow diverse talent across all business lines. They partner with over 20 HBCUs and 35 HSIs to upskill students and offer career opportunities. Kroger also collaborates with HBCU Connect and Handshake to identify diverse talent, ensuring strong representation and innovative perspectives in entry-level positions. Diversity and Inclusion have been longstanding core values within The Kroger Company. These values are reflected in their strong focus on early talent, recognizing its crucial role in fostering a diverse and innovative workforce. In developing and diversifying early talent, Kroger ensures that fresh perspectives and ideas are consistently infused throughout the organization. This approach not only supports the professional growth of young professionals but also drives the company's overall success and adaptability in a competitive market.
Excellence in Internship Programming
Kroger takes great pride in their internship program. The company offers three separate rotations to accommodate the schedules of their interns. Each rotation allows maximum exposure to senior leaders, company mentors, and impactful company projects. Interns work closely with industry subject matter experts throughout their rotations. They’re able to experience day to day operations at a fortune 500 company. In turn, they gain increased business acumen, tangible and intangible skillsets, and continual upskilling. Kroger also host an in person National Internship Appreciation Day each summer. This event highlights the interns and creates a fun, interactive, and vibrant environment. Interns are able to network and build strong professional connections for their careers!
