The Highlights of HubSpot's Approach to Early Career Hiring

Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting

The University Partnerships Team at HubSpot has built strategic relationships with schools across the country (and the world) to align with company diversity and inclusion goals. They focus on a multi-tiered approach to engage with universities through career services, student organizations, and directly with professors. Outside of a traditional college setting, the team has also hosted several virtual events including fireside chats, AMA’s, or panel discussions to attract candidates from non-traditional backgrounds. These events are more casual and intimate, allowing candidates to get to know HubSpot as a company. HubSpot also hosts First Gens in Tech, an event focused on connecting first-gens with the information and resources needed to get their careers started in the tech industry. Attendees are also invited to join a Slack channel to network with industry professionals with a similar background.

Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience

HubSpot is focused on building a company where people can do their best work. A company where people can grow personally and professionally. That’s why HubSpot’s culture is rooted in what employees want from employers today: autonomy, flexibility, transparency, and a commitment to diversity. The Global Community & University Partnerships Team understands this focus and provides every candidate with a detailed summary of their hiring process, expected timelines, and feedback at every stage. The team takes care to connect with candidates before interviews to guide them on who they will meet, how best to prepare, and what questions to expect. The University Partnerships Team wants candidates to feel confident in their candidate journey with HubSpot.

Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion

HubSpot takes a thoughtful approach to their strategic partnerships and is intentional about including many minority-serving institutions (HBCUs, HSIs, community colleges) and they have partnered with several non-traditional educational institutions such as ColorStack and AfroTech. HubSpot currently has a partnership with Howard University to build a Center of Digital Business on campus, and host an annual Women’s Web App Workshop aimed at helping female computer science students boost their resumes with projects. This partnership provides opportunities for career mentorship and increased learning in the digital business space. They also support college and university professors through their Education Partner Program, which provides educators with everything they need to teach leading courses in marketing, sales, entrepreneurship, and communications.

Investing in Impactful Internship Programs

The HubSpot team strongly believes that real, hands-on work is the best way for interns to experience the #HubSpotLife. Interns are treated like full-time employees and given ownership of real projects that employees are actively working on. Interns also have the ability to make an immediate impact at HubSpot by proposing new projects to the business, and P&E interns are responsible for shipping code as part of their experience. In fact, interns at HubSpot are often mistaken for full-time employees. And they wouldn’t have it any other way. In addition to consistent performance feedback, the HubSpot team offers interns access to mentorship programs, professional development events throughout the year, social events, and much more. HubSpot wants to provide value to their interns in the hope that they will choose them for a full-time position upon graduation.

Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent

HubSpot obsesses over company culture. It’s why they invest heavily in their employees’ success. They offer a variety of mentorship and coaching programs, access to employee resource groups, free monthly books, in-depth virtual onboarding and training programs, access to HubSpot’s Learning Academy, and much more. They have also moved to a hybrid model because they believe work isn’t a place and access to career opportunities and growth shouldn’t be defined by a zip code. HubSpot embraces remote work and empowers its employees to build work around their lives, instead of the other way around.
