Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting

HedgeServ continued to grow during the past couple of years. The recruitment team partnered with colleges and universities in key locations for virtual and in-person job fairs. These opportunities gave potential candidates the opportunity to interact with members of HedgeServ’s team. HedgeServ also sponsored a variety of workshop and e-lectures to help candidates refine their skills and their job search. Topics included, writing a resume, preparing for interviews, and using LinkedIn. Information sessions were also held to introduce HedgeServ and available opportunities.

Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience

HedgeServ has gone through tremendous growth over the past 5 years. The early careers team understands that it is critical to build a solid foundation of new employees where the recruitment process is driven by HedgeServ’s corporate values (Relationships, Support, Innovation, Expertise) from the first connection with new talent, while also aligning with each candidate’s expectations. To ensure a positive candidate experience, the team at HedgeServ pledges timely communication throughout each stage of the recruitment process. Detailed job descriptions provide a baseline of expectations and responsibilities which are further clarified by in person or virtual face-to-face interactions; cameras on is the rule at HedgeServ when meeting virtually. Candidate questions are encouraged at any step of the process. Glimpses into the HedgeServ culture can be found on their LinkedIn page which is updated regularly with posts and photos highlighting global initiatives and team building activities.

Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion

Diversity and Inclusion are an important part of the culture at HedgeServ. The HedgeServ team provides resources to elevate the at-risk and underserved children locally. For example, HedgeServ was recently the lead sponsor for Capital for Kids, a network of volunteers from investment management companies which supports organizations that educate, protect, and encourage at-risk children. Through initiatives like this, HedgeServ can help the most vulnerable children succeed. HedgeServ understands the value of mentorship and the buddy system. Every new hire is assigned a buddy to help guide them through their onboarding and training. Cohorts of new hires meet bi-weekly where they can share their experience and support each other. A formal mentorship pairs any junior employee wishing to participate with a member of senior leadership.

Investing in Impactful Internship Programs

HedgeServ values the importance of a strong internship program. HedgeServ interns are provided a unique and inclusive opportunity to gain exposure to multiple areas of the financial services industry while receiving direct guidance from senior staff members. HedgeServ offers a buddy program that assigns all new interns a senior staff member to mentor them through their experience. Interns at HedgeServ are empowered to take on client-facing work and projects to provide an authentic associate level work experience. HedgeServ offers a comprehensive training catalog for both technical and soft skills that will best prepare students as they enter the workforce.

Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent

HedgeServ’s grad program is recognized as the gold-standard in the finance industry. During the two-year program, associates are squired through the training process with a mentor. A menu of soft-skills courses is available allowing new-hires to customize their learning experience by focusing on developing the skills that need attention. Formalized monthly check-ins with managers allows associates the opportunity to review their progress and set new goals. The opportunity to work directly with other groups, senior leadership, and clients allows for a unique structure where associates have full responsibility and visibility for the clients they cover. On completion of the program, associates stand head-and-shoulders above HedgeServ’s competitors.
