Recognized for Excellence in Every Campus Forward Award Category
GE Appliances, a Haier company received a Campus Forward Award for Excellence in Recruitment Strategies, Tech Innovation, Candidate Experience, DE&I, and Internship Programming.
Receiving an award for each category reflects GE Appliances' unwavering excellence and commitment to providing the best experience for the next generation of talent. GE Appliances invests in innovative recruitment strategies, cutting-edge technology, thoughtful candidate experiences, inclusive recruitment practices, and standout internship programs. See below for the highlights of their strategies in each one of these categories.
Excellence in Recruitment Strategies
The university recruiting team and volunteer recruiters at GE Appliances are dedicated to providing an exceptional candidate experience through a hybrid approach to recruiting events. These events include virtual info sessions, career development presentations, resume reviews, mock interviews, site visits, plant tours, and on-campus career fairs at select schools. The team actively collaborates with diversity groups such as SHPE, SWE, NSBE, and LAA, hosting presentations, conferences, scholarships, and attending national career fairs. After each event, candidates benefit from fast interviews (within three days) and offer extensions. The team's campus recruiter personally calls all offer recipients, offering support throughout the process. Additionally, volunteer recruiters maintain connections with candidates, providing guidance, answering questions, and sending congratulations once offers are extended.
Excellence in Tech Innovation
The GE Appliances campus team uses technology to streamline recruiting processes and improve efficiency through tools like Workday, Yello, SeekOut, LinkedIn, Handshake, and Symplicity. These platforms enable the team to quickly reconnect with candidates after events or application submissions, post roles on student job boards, and respond to candidate inquiries. Workday’s Community Engagement feature allows the creation of landing pages for specific events, such as the SWE National Conference, while Yello allowed for virtual resume reviews and mock interviews to take place prior to the conference. Volunteer recruiters also use Yello to collect resumes at campus events and conduct numerous interviews after career fairs (more than is possible in a next-day interview space), ensuring fast offer extensions and improving the overall recruitment experience.
Excellence in Candidate Experience
The GE Appliances team is committed to enhancing the candidate experience and has introduced new strategies for co-ops/interns this year. These include pre-start Town Hall meetings to help co-ops/interns maximize the experience, meet the program managers and support teams, and address any questions. Additionally, monthly "keep warm" emails are sent from acceptance to start date, featuring GE Appliances stories, community highlights, and past intern experiences. The campus team also ensures personalized follow-up with candidates, providing correct role links, resume enhancement suggestions, and assistance until candidates have applied. Volunteer recruiters conduct interviews within three days of events and hold candidate review meetings right away to make offers quickly. The team also supports candidates with onboarding through calls and texts, ensuring a smooth process.
Excellence in DE&I
Diversity of thought drives innovation at GE Appliances, keeping the company competitive with products like a Spanish washer and dryer. The diversity team attracts top talent by hosting and attending over ten diversity-focused events annually, partnering with organizations like SWE, NSBE, NBMBAA, SHPE, Latina Engineers, HBCUConnect, and others. These collaborations include leadership conferences, networking events, and virtual workshops, along with individual scholarships for some student organization participants. GE Appliances also participates in national conferences to recruit diverse candidates. Once talent joins the company, GE Appliances supports them with eight employee resource groups, providing opportunities for mentorship, engagement with similar individuals and allies, and involvement in hosting events that support the group’s initiatives.
Excellence in Internship Programming
GE Appliances ensures co-ops/interns have a meaningful experience by offering real-world projects, co-op committees, showcase presentations, professional development workshops, volunteer opportunities, and team-building activities. Co-ops gain pride in seeing products they worked on in stores and develop presentation skills through final project presentations to business leaders. The program also features committees that interns/co-ops can join. These committees organize fun outings and sports activities, including volleyball and flag football, often competing against full-time employees, along with creating newsletters and new merchandise. Additionally, software co-ops compete in a SumoBot challenge, while supply chain co-ops tackle organizational problem-solving challenges. Each semester includes “Intern Week” featuring career development sessions, executive panels, networking events, and volunteer activities. These initiatives contribute to a high net promoter score and strong returner rates each semester.
