Recognized for Excellence
GE Appliances received a Campus Forward Award for Excellence in Early Career Recruitment Strategy, Innovation in Action, and Excellence in Candidate Experience.
This award celebrates the team’s strong dedication to fostering forward-thinking campus recruiting programs that convert top student talent, investing in advanced technology and AI transforming early career recruiting, and championing a standout candidate experience with authentic branding and transparent communication. See below for the highlights of their innovative approach to early career recruitment.
Excellence in Early Career Recruitment Strategy
The GE Appliances campus recruiting team takes a hybrid approach to recruiting top talent for their co-op and intern programs and utilizes a team of approximately 150 volunteer recruiters across all functions to make the best impact. The company attends career fairs, info sessions, student organization meetings, resume reviews, mock interviews, and more on campus for in-person engagement, on top of hosting several targeted virtual sessions for specific groups throughout the year. The campus team also utilizes RippleMatch, Handshake, and Symplicity to share roles and increase the applicant pool. The use of RippleMatch has allowed them to expand their candidate pool beyond their core school partners, enabling the team to review candidates and identify top talent more quickly and improve the candidate experience with quicker response times.
Innovation in Action
The GE Appliances campus team has been working diligently this year to improve the candidate experience through the use of technology and AI. Utilizing platforms like RippleMatch has allowed them to source candidates faster, decreasing response times to just a few days. They also piloted a new interview tool with some of their intern programs this year that allowed all their applicants to interview through video with an avatar while returning scores and feedback on applicants' interviews to more quickly screen and send top candidates forward to interview with team members. They've also utilized RippleMatch and Microsoft Teams to host several virtual events, from coffee chats and town halls with incoming co-ops/interns to info sessions on specific programs that often recruit from schools in New York to Washington. Technology has helped improve their sourcing and onboarding experience for both their recruiters and candidates, and allowed them to expand their reach beyond local schools.
Excellence in Candidate Experience
The campus team at GE Appliances puts candidate experience at the forefront of their work and continuously goes above and beyond to make sure students have a positive interaction with all of their team members. This starts on campus at events by getting to interact with team members who actually work with and have been through the early talent program themselves, to share about their experiences, and to help candidates prepare for the interview process. For career fairs, they ensure candidates receive an invite to interview within 2 days of the fair, with offers or notifications of no offers going out as soon as all interviews have been completed per school. The campus recruiters call and extend each offer verbally to answer any questions while also following up with an email with details. They also use survey feedback on the onboarding experience to create numerous contact points with students once hired, including monthly keep-warm emails, a 100-day countdown to their start date with events at each 25-day mark, including a coffee chat with current co-ops/interns and a townhall meeting with program managers. Students also get their supervisor's and mentor's names prior to their start, to begin communications with them before arriving. New hires are also asked to complete a pre-survey of their NACE Competencies and goals they'd like to accomplish while in the program to share with their assignment leader when they start, and to be able to track their skill development throughout.
