Excellence in Recruitment Strategies
Gallagher is continually exploring innovative avenues to bring fresh talent into the insurance industry. This year, they launched the Gallagher Partnership Internship Program (GPIP) to offer professional athletes a pathway to a successful second career after spots. Gallagher welcomed players from the Atlanta Falcons to introduce them to insurance brokerage and build confidence in an office environment. Given the average career in the NFL is only 2.5 years, GPIP taps into a broader emerging talent pool beyond traditional university recruiting. Athletes join GPIP with transferrable skills such as teamwork and humility, diverse perspectives, and a track record of performing at the highest level. Gallagher nurtures these qualities by providing business acumen training, exposure to client-facing roles, and influential professional networks.
Excellence in Tech Innovation
Gallagher leverages Oracle Journeys technology to deliver personalized guidance and support to interns, offering timely content as they progress through program milestones from start to finish. In response to intern feedback, Gallagher has prioritized transparency regarding AI usage in the workplace. They introduced two AI-focused sessions: the first, a workshop during the internship to educate students on the company’s AI policy, showcase employee use cases, and encourage new, innovative ideas from interns. The second session is a virtual recruitment event that demystified the role of AI in recruitment processes. With hundreds of registrants, it was one of the most popular events of the recruitment season.
Excellence in Candidate Experience
Gallagher is committed to enhancing the candidate experience by actively utilizing surveys and feedback. They conducted a brand assessment survey to gather insights from students on brand perception and preferred information channels. Additionally, they used candidate offer surveys to understand the factors influencing students’ decisions to accept or decline internship offers. These tools revealed the need to better inform candidates about the compensation model for interns and fulltime sales professionals, which has now been integrated into recruitment discussions. The surveys also underscored the significance of career advancement to students. Recognizing this as one of Gallagher’s strengths, they have emphasized career progression through social content, virtual recruitment events, and by informing students when their interviewers are former interns.
Excellence in DE&I
Gallagher leverages strategic sourcing and partnerships to attract and engage diverse talent. As a founding partner of the Center for Insurance Transformation (CIT), they support a groundbreaking certificate and internship program for students enrolled at Mississippi HBCUs. Through CIT, Gallagher is expanding career opportunities in risk management and insurance to a more diverse student population. Committed to inclusion, Gallagher incorporated a pre-program webinar series to equip interns with essential skills covering topics like “Insurance IQ” and “Unlocking Your Potential.” They also offered optional Affinity Coffee Chats, allowing interns to connect with Gallagher employees and allies of various identity groups. A highlight was the Reverse Intern Panel, where fulltime colleagues gained insights into the college experience today and learned what students seek from employers.
Excellence in Internship Programming
Many of Gallagher’s executive leaders began as interns, underscoring the company’s commitment to Leadership accessibility in its internship program. The summer is rich with networking opportunities, including events during Intern Orientation, the national week-long, in-person conference. More impactful are the organized presentations and role plays where leaders provide personalized coaching. In the intern tradition of Monday morning meetings, C-Suite Executives observe weekly intern presentations offering real-time guidance and celebrating progress. Another standout is the intern sales challenge, where Senior Leaders conduct prospect role plays providing constructive feedback. As interns advance, they qualify for the National Intern Sales Challenge Championship, with CEOs serving as prospects. These interactions not only hone key sales skills but also build lasting relationships to carry through interns’ careers at Gallagher.
