Receiving an award for each category reflects Frontier Communications' unwavering excellence and commitment to providing the best experience for the next generation of talent. Frontier Communications invests in innovative recruitment strategies, cutting-edge technology, thoughtful candidate experiences, inclusive recruitment practices, and standout internship programs. See below for the highlights of their strategies in each one of these categories.
Excellence in Recruitment Strategies
Frontier employs an innovative hybrid recruiting model, combining in-person and virtual strategies to ensure accessibility for all candidates. Attracting top talent to drive their transformation, they establish strong relationships with local universities, including HBCUs and HSIs, engaging over 3,000 students in the 2024-25 school year. Events featuring panels of recent graduates and intern hires showcase career possibilities at Frontier. Students from partnered schools participated in the Frontier Tech Challenge, developing tech solutions using AI and automation. Leveraging technology like Eightfold and AI, they provide application responses in under 4 days, receiving glowing feedback for the speedy, personalized experience. With uniquely targeted events and a personal touch, Frontier's hiring teams fast-track candidates to final interviews.
Excellence in Tech Innovation
Frontier prioritizes an accessible and fair candidate experience using event management tools, CRM, and social media to efficiently coordinate over 25 career fairs and networking events, connecting with more than 3,000 students. Their cutting-edge talent systems enable a swift, mobile-friendly application process (~3 min) and response in under 4 days. While recruiters remain involved, AI aids in fair resume reviews. Intern roles skip technical assessments, opting for behavioral-based questions to assess soft skills, breaking down entry barriers. Virtual interviews, powered by video software, ensure accessibility and nationwide reach, enhancing diversity. Technology is integrated into the intern program with features like the Intern Virtual Learning Hub, engaging virtual events, and MS Teams Hubs for program details, bi-weekly posts, and knowledge sharing. Notably, interns rated the program with a 96 NPS, appreciating the continuous communication facilitated by these technologies.
Excellence in Candidate Experience
Frontier creates a positive-personalized student experience by ensuring job descriptions are thorough, listing expected response times and the recruitment process timeline. During student events, they provide an overview of the company, strategy, and values, featuring former interns and recent graduate hires. Engaging virtual and in-person events introduce candidates to Frontier's culture and career opportunities. Frontier offers resume support and interview prep before and after career fairs, making support accessible virtually or in classrooms. Partnering with professors, they present on resumes, elevator pitches, interview prep, and post-interview processes. The streamlined application process is mobile-friendly and quick, taking ~3min and response in ~3 days. AI assists in fair resume reviews, ensuring an unbiased selection process. Frontier skips technical assessments for intern roles and conducts virtual interviews, making the process fast and accessible. Tools like the Intern Virtual Learning Hub and MS Teams Hubs help students build skills, stay informed, and engaged, resulting in high satisfaction and a 100% post-graduate job acceptance rate.
Excellence in DE&I
Frontier recognizes the value of diverse perspectives, educational backgrounds, and cultures in carrying out its purpose of Building Gigabit America – connecting more people to fast, reliable fiber internet and all the opportunities it unlocks. This commitment is evident in their early talent recruitment strategy, with a focus on DEI. Their intern program's DEI initiatives begin by partnering with minority-serving institutions and engaging Employee Resource Group (ERG) members as mentors. They support events with HBCUs, HSIs, and student organizations like Women Mentoring Women in Engineering, Women in Computing, NSBE, and Girls Who Code. This year, ERGs served as culture buddies, involving interns in PRIDE Month and AAPI Heritage Month events. Interns also supported tech and career education at Minnie's Food Pantry and virtually worldwide and produced no-sew blankets with the Veterans ERG for the Veterans Hospital. This emphasis on diversity results in a 77% diverse intern program, with 100% of interns feeling a sense of belonging and a strong interest in returning to the company.
Excellence in Internship Programming
Frontier's 10-week summer internship program offers early career talent a comprehensive and impactful experience. Interns benefit from a dedicated onboarding process, mirroring the full-time employee journey with clear goals and reviews. They engage in significant projects, such as enhancing customer behavior assessments and improving the customer chatbot. The program emphasizes community through events like Snack and Chats, community service, and continuous learning. Interns receive training through a dedicated learning academy, building leadership skills and learning stakeholder management, presentation, and more. Former interns and ERGs play a key role, offering mentorship and inviting interns to heritage month events and community initiatives like Broadband for Good, providing tech resources and education to community members. The final day award ceremony, where the CEO and senior leaders recognize accomplishments, is a notable feature. This year, 95% of interns reported a great experience, with 100% interested in returning, a 96 NPS, and 100% feeling a sense of belonging. The program aims to convert and promote interns, achieving a 53% offer acceptance rate.
