Excellence in Recruitment Strategies

Fifth Third takes a well-rounded approach to sourcing and recruiting early career talent. Throughout the year, recruiters build meaningful relationships with schools nationwide. They conduct resume reviews, tabling events, mock interviews, and site visits to help students prepare for internships and full-time roles. A standout initiative this year was the first in-person early ID event for candidates to learn more about investment banking and capital markets. Through this event, Fifth Third engaged with candidates earlier in the process and grew their interest in the Bank and its Cincinnati headquarters. This invite-only event was hosted at Fifth Third’s headquarters in Cincinnati, with a second session held in Charlotte. Students participated in site tours, panel discussions with professionals about their experiences and career paths, workshops, and a case competition. The event resulted in an overwhelming response, with many students applying for internships. The relationships they built during the event helped them better prepare for interviews and, ultimately, secure internships.

Tech Innovation

Excellence in Tech Innovation

Fifth Third recognizes in recruiting, Gen Z candidates for early careers, technology is top of mind and is essential to providing the best possible candidate experience. Fifth Third's website and mobile app are highly recognized as some of the best in the industry. The Bank’s ATS system is constantly re-imagined to improve the ability to capture and communicate with the candidate, both via e mail and text. The Bank also utilizes other external agencies to ensure that we are reaching the largest population possible. Whether it be RippleMatch, Yello or Handshake, the team has many avenues to connect with candidates and, more important, give candidates as many options as possible to connect with the roles and opportunities they seek.

Excellence in Candidate Experience

Fifth Third’s approach to a positive candidate experience is rooted in communication. From the first point of contact, candidates are provided with constant updates on the process and live feedback. Fifth Third also communicates what the process will be for interviews, including timeframes, and continues with clear, direct communication after the candidate is hired. If a candidate is not selected, recruiters offer a follow-up conversation to review interview and resume feedback to help the candidate be successful moving forward. Once hired, monthly updates are provided to students to keep them up to date on Fifth Third as well provided with reminders recruiters are there to support them. The team also sends two SWAG care packages (one in the winter and one right before they start) to get excited about joining the bank!

Fifth Third is committed to ensuring our early career talent feels valued, respected and included. As part of this commitment, Fifth Third works with institutions of higher learning, including historically Black colleges and universities, not only to raise awareness of banking as a career option, but also to serve as a resource for the community. The Bank also partners with various organizations, including the NSBE, NABA, ALPFA, Forte, SWE, and Girls Who Invest and hosts career fairs, panel discussions, and professional development and financial literacy workshops.

Fifth Third's 10-week internship program provides an impactful experience for early career talent through a comprehensive approach. An in-person Day-1 orientation allows interns to connect with executives, program managers, and peers, establishing a strong foundation and clear expectations. Pairing interns with mentors from their line of business and facilitating cross-functional projects promotes professional development. A weekly speaker series and discussions about career opportunities provide valuable insights for future career aspirations. Meaningful and intentional real-work assignments ensure an engaging learning environment. Emphasizing Fifth Third's culture and commitment to employees, customers, and communities instills a sense of purpose. The program's blend of networking, mentorship, skill development, and community involvement truly enriches the internship experience.
