This reflects Federal Reserve Bank of New York's unwavering excellence and commitment to providing the best experience for the next generation of talent. Federal Reserve Bank of New York invests in multi-faceted recruitment strategies, thoughtful candidate experience, inclusive recruitment practices, and standout internship programs. See below for the highlights of their strategies in each one of these categories.
Excellence in Recruitment Strategies
The New York Fed is always looking innovative ways to source and recruit early careers talent. All efforts are based on strategic conversations around each business area’s hiring needs and the schools, majors, and skills needed to support them. Their sourcing and recruitment approaches include partnerships with the New York Fed Economic Education team to engage with students in the local community; early identification programs such as High School Mentoring programs; creative brand awareness efforts like videos, one-pagers, and timely website updates to keep talent engaged; webinars that highlight specific business areas to target students of different interests; on-campus visits, both general and major-specific, to directly engage with students; direct contact with school administrators to form strong relationships; partnerships with diversity organizations; and more.
Excellence in Candidate Experience
Managers are encouraged to reach out to candidates when an offer is accepted to share in the excitement. Before their start date, students are in regular contact with the onboarding and recruitment teams and receive a monthly, targeted newsletter with steps to take and updates about the New York Fed. Webinars are hosted before their first day to share essential information and begin building face-to-face relationships. The New York Fed recently implemented an app that allows incoming interns to complete their onboarding and share contact information with one another before their start date. Once they begin, interns remain in regular contact with the Early Careers team both in-person and virtually.
Excellence in DE&I
DE&I is a core pillar of the New York Fed’s People Strategy and is thoughtfully integrated into every aspect of its work. The New York Fed strives to maintain a workforce, including interns, that is representative of the district it serves. The organization partners with diversity organizations, many of which have student chapters, to spread knowledge and recruit talent. It also collaborates with other Reserve Banks to highlight internships onsite at HBCUs and HSIs. Using Handshake, the New York Fed connects with nearly 1,000 colleges and universities to reach a broad and inclusive talent pool. All interns are hired through an inclusive hiring process and are encouraged to join one of twelve employee resource networks, participate in training and development opportunities, complete experience surveys, and engage in the mentoring program.
Excellence in Internship Programming
The New York Fed is not driven by profit or the bottom line--they are committed to public service. The opportunity for interns to have a direct and positive impact on the Second District, the nation, and the world are not experiences a student can find anywhere else. Students also have a mentor that allows them to work with employees other than their manager. Additionally, substantial time is put into ensuring interns do project-based work that is connected to the Bank’s mission and aligned specifically with the intern’s skills and areas of interest. All the work interns do is thoughtfully designed and thoroughly vetted ahead of time, and opportunities to network with both senior leaders and Bank employees are frequent.
