F.H. Paschen’s (FHP) recruiting strategy includes a hands-on approach to sourcing early-career talent by engaging with students through career fairs, on-campus and virtual presentations, and collaboration with student organizations, including project site visits throughout the school year. FHP attends a variety of career fairs throughout the country to meet diverse candidates. For more targeted outreach, they present to classes and clubs aligning with the work they complete. FHP also utilizes social media campaigning and has had great success from producing videos that showcase the F.H. Paschen internship experience. These videos include interviews from those in all positions across the company who started as interns and share their stories on how they got to where they are at today.

Excellence in Candidate Experience

F.H. Paschen has created a streamlined candidate experience for hiring interns and graduates. Through their Applicant Tracking System, the candidates are constantly kept in the loop through the hiring process. Company information is shared early in the recruitment process so they can be prepared with all necessary information prior to the interview process. Once hired, the candidate is put in touch with their manager and is familiarized with the company and project they are assigned to. When the students are home on Winter break, F.H. Paschen utilizes this opportunity to throw a Welcome Party, so the students can meet and mingle with their future coworkers. Prior to orientation, the candidates are sent all information needed in order to have a successful induction to the company. Intern orientations are comprised of a whole day of learning from executives, meeting each other, and information about the company. F.H. Paschen strives to make the experience a smooth process for each candidate, from application through hire.

Excellence in DE&I

F.H. Paschen (FHP) is dedicated to inclusive recruitment by partnering with HBCUs and diverse student organizations. FHP engages early talent through their Paschen Scholars Program, a collaboration with a Chicago Public School, where six inner city high school students are selected annually for a summer program and part-time internships before college. This year, FHP celebrated a significant milestone by hiring its first full-time Paschen Scholar. In 2024, FHP exceeded diversity goals, with 37.3% of interns identifying as female and 40% as underrepresented minorities, showcasing a strong commitment to fostering equity and creating opportunities for the next generation of industry leaders.

Excellence in Internship Programming

F.H. Paschen’s internship program offers hands-on experience through impactful projects and mentorship from industry leaders. Interns actively contribute to high-profile construction projects, gaining invaluable industry knowledge. Through the Friday in the Field events, interns are exposed to multiple market sectors and large-scale projects. Rapport is built between interns and full-time employees through various social events, including a bags tournament, a women’s intern lunch, and an end of summer party with interns from all 14 offices. Throughout the summer, interns work in groups to put together a presentation on what they learned and challenges they overcame at FHP and present it to executives. FHP’s 100% intern to full time acceptance rate in 2024 reflects its success in preparing interns for long-term careers.
