Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting

The DPR College Recruiting Team recruits at nearly 60 universities across the United States. An incredible group of passionate employees volunteer to recruit at their respective alma mater each year. They participate in corporate info sessions, career fairs and guest lecture on technical subjects. In addition to recruiting on campus, DPR has created relationships with organizations such as NSBE and SWE and attends LGBTQ-affiliated events. The company has access to an incredibly strong and diverse recruiting pool—one that has grown though sponsoring poster competitions for women engineers at SWE and setting up virtual booths at NSBE and BuildOut California.

Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience

DPR Construction works hard to showcase their amazing people and the unique culture they have created together. The interview process is designed to help students make a personal connection with the company and learn about what makes DPR different. The candidates are brought to one of the offices to interact with employees for an entire day. They play interactive team building games, tour a construction site, and interview with employees from across the country. The candidates are encouraged to ask questions about what makes DPR a great place to work. Their interviewers make the process enjoyable, creating a laid-back atmosphere filled with enthusiasm.

Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion

DPR Construction has made huge strides in creating a candidate pool that better represents the communities in which employees live, work and serve. The company recruits at seven HBCUs and has been an active partner with NSBE, SWE and BuildOut California. After recruitment, candidates are brought into a welcoming culture where diversity and uniqueness are celebrated. Two central beliefs, Respect for the Individual and Change the World, guide DPR as a company and come to life daily in thoughts, words and actions. These core beliefs have transformed a notoriously challenging construction industry into a place where ideas are shared freely and people are respected for who they are .

Investing in Impactful Internship Programs

DPR recruits and hires incredibly talented interns. Students work on some of the most technically demanding projects in the country and make significant contributions as a true part of the team. Experiences range from working on projects within DPR’s healthcare, commercial, advanced technology, higher education or life sciences core markets to joining teams on internal functions such as self-perform work and data analytics. In addition to gaining real world, hands-on experience, interns present their summer work and takeaways to company leadership, design and complete a team community service project, participate in a company photo contest, and take part in team building events.

Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent

DPR is committed to hiring, inspiring, developing and growing the best builders and has various internal training programs that teach the skills a great builder and leader will need. During the Technical Builder Program, young DPR employees participate in a two-year rotational training program where they become experts in different systems and technologies. Employees are valued by their contributions rather than by their age or tenure, opening the door for rapid career growth for motivated employees. Additionally, DPR is a flat and title-less organization that enables employees to grow into different roles and career paths based on their skills and interests.
