The Highlights of Credit Suisse's Approach to Early Career Hiring
Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting
Credit Suisse Campus Recruitment connects with a broad and diverse pool of students through creative social media marketing, innovative virtual events and challenges, and a shift in school strategy. The team’s social media presence across multiple platforms allows them to reach more candidates while promoting our values, culture and opportunities. The team hosts a variety of unique events for candidates such as coding and stock pitch challenges and training series that provide a comprehensive and transparent view of our culture. Additionally, there is a focus on educating students early on in their college careers by hosting finance simulations to introduce them to various roles at the bank. With an increasing focus on diversity and inclusion and virtual recruitment, the team has also shifted their school strategy to partner with a broader list of universities, such as HBCUs. This shift has led to greater exposure to candidates and increased diversity in our intern and entry-level programs.
Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience
The Campus Recruitment Team at Credit Suisse continuously strives to create an exceptional candidate experience, particularly through their communications strategy that is backed by industry research. Research shows that frequent, consistent, and personalized messaging from organizations resonates most with young talent, and Credit Suisse adopts a “stay connected” mindset for its candidates. The team maintains regular and personal interactions with candidates throughout the year by leveraging an organized communications strategy that maps out precisely when certain messaging is sent. This level of detail executes a more efficient strategy where candidates feel supported with consistent communications throughout the recruitment process. Students are never left guessing what the details are around an event or a program, and the recruiters are always more than willing to schedule a coffee chat with a candidate. The team also conducts post-event surveys to hear directly from the students themselves on candidate experience and improve where necessary.
Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion
Credit Suisse Campus Recruitment maintains a strong focus on diversity. Starting with marketing, the team consistently uses social media campaigns to connect with diverse communities via various channels. They also host frequent key events with HBCUs, diversity partners such as Forte, and internal Employee Networks such as the Black Professionals Network. The team launched new diversity-focused programs in 2021, such as the Apprenticeship Program for NYC high school students and the CS Scholars Program, which offers scholarships to HBCU students. Moreover, as part of their diversity internship revamp, the team significantly increased the number of diverse sophomore interns this past year. Interns receive mentorship, extensive training, access to diverse partnership networking events and senior leadership, and a dedicated Campus Recruiter, all of which create a positive experience.
Investing in Impactful Internship Programs
Credit Suisse’s dynamic internship program provides assessment metrics for business selection decisions while providing interns with an experience that allows them to make informed choices about their career path. Interns receive training, participate in networking/philanthropy events, undergo mentorship with senior members of the bank, and complete an end-of-summer presentation for the business. The opportunities for interns to contribute to real work assignments while building their network lead to significant career development and on-the-job learning. Interns are supported throughout their program at Credit Suisse, receiving consistent communication from their dedicated Campus recruiter, mentor, and teammates. If needed, interns can even receive a second mentor for additional support. These facets of the internship program have greatly contributed to Credit Suisse’s high return offer acceptance rate.
Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent
Credit Suisse offers rotational programs within certain businesses to provide new hires the opportunity to explore different areas within their department while building a strong network through cohort and business exposure. They are able to fine-tune where they see themselves within their hiring department. New hires build a strong career foundation through mentorship and training. Another important piece is that many of these rotational programs are global in nature. This gives entry level hires opportunities to work with colleagues on a global level, and be a part of a program that has an established reputation. As a result, our employees are able to move internally from city to city (or country to country), and will have experience on their resume that resonates across many global locations.
