Excellence in Internship Programming

Centene’s internship program achieved a 46% retention/conversion rate for the summer of 2024. The program attracts talent nationwide through school-agnostic strategies and a flexible, 95% remote/hybrid workplace. Belonging is key to intern retention, leading to the introduction of access to Employee Inclusion Groups (EIGs) through the DEI Office for networking and community-building. The inaugural Intern Summit featured executive speakers, a volunteer project supporting foster youth, and a social event. In collaboration with the broader Talent Attraction team, the University Recruitment team led skill workshops where interns practiced their elevator pitch and learned how to give and receive feedback. The 3-day event earned a 90.48 NPS score. One intern said it best: “The Intern Summit has made me more comfortable with public speaking, building relationships, networking, communicating, and forcing myself out of my comfort zone. Overall, the summit has been an incredible experience as it has helped me feel more confident in my abilities as a young professional.”
