Excellence in Recruitment Strategies

Black & Veatch's Early Careers team strategy for sourcing and recruiting students not only comes from traditional career fairs but includes innovative avenues such as the Engineering Technician Accelerator Program and Women in Construction & Engineering Student Day. The Engineering Technician Accelerator Program is a training program that teaches technical drawing concepts and computer based-drafting tools. The program is 3-6 months and upon successful completion, professionals transition to an entry-level Engineering Technician position. The past three years Black & Veatch organized and hosted an annual Women in Construction & Engineering Student Day which celebrates and recognizes the contributions of women in construction and engineering. Students at this event are able to network with other professionals which helps empower women to thrive in their careers and make a lasting impact in the industry.

Excellence in DE&I

Black & Veatch believes creating and sustaining a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable work environment begins with a pledge to view and treat each other as equal. Black & Veatch has a focus on DE&I initiatives related to Early Careers by building relationships with HBCU’s, HSI’s, public universities, presenting to student organizations, and participating in national conferences. Black & Veatch strives to create an inviting work environment to all professionals and offers several Employee Resource Groups. ERGs help assemble people with similar backgrounds and stories to promote cultural awareness and engagement, provide mentoring and social opportunities, and help find the best way professionals can contribute to their strategy and mission.

Excellence in Internship Programming

The internship experience at Black & Veatch gives interns meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities that will enhance their careers. Interns collaborate with the industry’s best engineers, designers, project managers, and innovators on projects that are making a difference for people and communities around the world. When interns bring their insight, imagination, and a healthy disregard for the impossible, their internship can have an impact around the world. This past summer, Black & Veatch provided opportunities to visit client sites to give visibility to interns of Black & Veatch’s work in the local communities. Additionally, interns enjoyed multiple social and volunteer events through the summer to promote networking, giving back to the community, and fun outside of the office.
