The Highlights of AT&T's Approach to Early Career Hiring
Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting
AT&T is continuously in search of the best emerging talent in their field from institutions across the country. AT&T’s college recruiting team hosts regular virtual events (which have become increasingly important during the pandemic), as well as resume review sessions and panels which allow candidates to hear directly from current AT&T development program employees and recruiters. AT&T also hosts annual capstone events, like the Summer Learning Academy, which gives 20,000 students access to 2 weeks of free STEM curriculum and professional development and the Collegiate Summit, which brings candidates in the pipeline together with executives to discuss AT&T’s future and commitment to DE&I.
Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience
The AT&T College Recruiting Team utilizes a variety of methods to create a positive candidate experience. The team implemented the Virtual Interactive Platform, which connects student job seekers with experts from their field who are leaders at AT&T. This platform not only enables candidates to see how the work in their field, done at AT&T, is making a difference for AT&T’s customers, it also gives them an opportunity to develop their networking skills and receive valuable mentoring. AT&T embraces automation and data visualization software to track key metrics to ensure the best application experience possible, while also regularly conducting surveys to solicit feedback from all applicants.
Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion
Recruiting and retaining a workforce representative of the diversity of AT&T’s customer base is a top priority for the Talent Acquisition and College Recruitment teams. Members of those teams lead relationships for students at HBCUs and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) and more than a dozen other groups, like Girls Who Code, Afrotech and Society of Hispanic Engineers. The team also hosts diverse recruitment events such as the HACEMOS sales challenge, HBCU innovation challenge, and SheCounts finance case competition. Employees at AT&T are also encouraged to join any of the numerous Employee Groups and Employee Networks that foster DE&I within our company.
Investing in Impactful Internship Programs
Interns at AT&T are deeply involved in and make significant contributions to meaningful projects that have demonstrated return for the business and deliver on strategic priorities. The time they spend at AT&T enables them to also get valuable access to AT&T’s top current and future leaders – whether that be during “lunch and learns,” innovation challenges or mentoring opportunities. Among the valuable benefits AT&T interns earn is paid time off to volunteer with a community organization of their choice.
Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent
AT&T’s purpose is to create connection – with each other, with what people and businesses need to thrive every day and with the stories and experiences that matter. The college development programs at AT&T are focused on rotations that expose new employees to different business units that broaden an employee’s skillsets and networks. AT&T emphasizes professional development through nanodegrees, soft skills training courses as well as degree partnerships with several prominent colleges and universities across the country and tuition reimbursement programs. AT&T is also committed to employee growth through mentorship programs and employee networks.
