The campus recruiting team's talent acquisition strategy focuses on storytelling, enhancing the candidate experience, and building a strong brand. Acknowledging that they are a smaller player in a vast tech landscape, the team has curated user stories featuring their early career hires and the significant impact these individuals have made at the firm. Candidates receive firsthand insights into the projects they will be involved in and the value these contributions will bring to their respective teams. Gen Z candidates are eager to make a positive impact. Understanding that this can be challenging early in their careers, our recruiting team highlights the achievements of previous hires to set Apex apart from competitors.
Excellence in Tech Innovation
The campus recruiting team is small but mighty. Efficiency and time-saving strategies are the team's top priorities. They utilize AI tools such as RippleMatch to assist with sourcing candidates and reviewing resumes. Applicant screening has been a crucial part of the team's success. They strategically implemented the sort functionality in 2024, which has reduced time-to-hire and enhanced the candidate experience. As a result, the team is able to move candidates through the process much faster and provide timely updates. Knowing they can't be everywhere, they also leveraged the tool to broaden their reach. They hired students from all over the county, further enhancing their school-agnostic recruitment approach. In addition, the team leveraged AI to create email campaigns and program outlines. Most notably, they used AI to generate content for an early career zine, fostering a sense of community for new hires, which lowered the likelihood of reneging.
Excellence in Candidate Experience
The campus recruiting team at Apex are marketers and customer service gurus at heart. They understand the value of a personal recruitment strategy and strive to bring a human touch to their work. The team simplified the recruitment process and eliminated lengthy interviews, which enabled them to create digital assets that outline the application process. They provide interview tips and tricks, a video where students can learn more about the firm, and slide decks about the specific team they are interviewing with. In their opinion, less is not more. This has garnered trust and appreciation from early career candidates. Once hired, the team launches its keep warm strategy, sending a monthly zine spotlighting each new hire while curating content relevant to early career new hires.
Excellence in DE&I
The fintech industry has struggled with a lack of diverse reputation. The campus recruiting team at Apex knows how a lack of representation can stifle innovation and progress. To alleviate some of the disparities, the team has developed strategic partnerships with HBCUs and HSIs. They streamlined their interview process to make it more inclusive for all candidates. They developed a set of inclusive behavioral interview questions that take into account the various education, work experiences, and backgrounds their candidates have. They also choose a diverse group of interviewers to help alleviate candidates' feelings of imposter syndrome. The team prioritizes potential over experience and emphasizes the importance of coachability when speaking to hiring teams. The team also uses sourcing tools like RippleMatch to create a diverse application pool, which lays a strong foundation for the diverse slate of candidates during the interview process. Lastly, Campus Recruiting at Apex provides actionable insights and data to improve retention, promotion, and diversity goals.
Excellence in Internship Programming
At Apex Fintech, Finterns have the opportunity to participate in an engaging internship program designed to immerse students in the fintech industry while equipping them with valuable skills and networking opportunities. The program is thoughtfully structured to provide a balanced experience for all interns. During their time with the company, interns will gain specific knowledge of industry-related applications such as Jira and Power BI. They will also take part in community-building activities, including sporting events, graffiti workshops, Do Good Dashes, and boat tours. Additionally, interns can join Fintern Fun Fridays (FFF), which are optional virtual events that interns can vote on. Apex also provides "bye weeks," which are designated periods when interns do not engage in internship programming. This allows them to focus solely on their work without the added pressure of participating in intern events. Overall, the Apex Internship Program provides a well-rounded experience that blends professional development with personal growth and community participation. It creates a nurturing environment where interns can learn, contribute, and build lasting relationships, making it a memorable and impactful experience.
