Excellence in Recruitment Strategies

The Akamai ET team takes a hybrid approach to recruiting the next generation of talent. The team attends in-person career fairs at diversity-serving schools, such as HBCUs, Women’s Colleges, and HSIs, along with virtual events, to connect students directly with Akamai employees. Akamai also sponsors student groups such as NSBE, SHPE, and Women in Tech chapters at multiple schools. These groups are invited into the office to learn more about Akamai as well as hear workshops from business leaders. Lastly, the Akamai began offering apprenticeships to those enrolled in the Akamai Technical Academy online certification program, allowing a pathway to technical roles for those from non-technical backgrounds/career changers. Akamai is excited to reach candidates through multiple channels to allow each individual opportunities to connect.

Excellence in Candidate Experience

The Akamai ET team is dedicated to fostering an excellent candidate experience. This begins with providing candidates with timely updates and feedback during the recruitment process and keeping interviews to 2-3 rounds maximum. During the recruitment process, candidates can request informational conversations with members of the company’s employee resource groups and to speak with former interns after receiving an offer. Candidates are surveyed at the end of the recruitment process to collect data on the hiring process and opportunities for improvement. After accepting an offer, candidates are added to community groups of other interns/entry-level hires to begin connecting prior to starting. They also receive regular updates from their recruiter, hiring manager, and mentor before starting.

Excellence in DE&I

The Akamai ET team’s mission is to provide pathways for those from underrepresented backgrounds to launch their careers in tech. This commitment to diversity is evident from the recruitment process to the hiring and retention process. The team is intentional with its campus recruitment, attending career fairs at HBCUs, HSIs, and Women’s Colleges. Additionally, the team sponsors multiple NSBE, SHPE, and Women in Tech chapters, as well as multiple women in tech conferences/hackathons. Candidates may also meet with ERG representatives during the recruitment process. When candidates begin their internship, they’re encouraged to join any of Akamai’s ERGs and receive weekly mentorship. The team also invites diverse business leaders to fireside chats with the interns to ensure that all interns feel welcomed and encouraged.
