SAS stood out this year for their commitment to students, from putting on a successful virtual internship program to hosting creative recruitment events to investing in a supportive candidate experience.
Read on for some of the highlights of SAS's innovative approach to college recruiting and why they were named a 2021 Campus Forward Honoree in RippleMatch's Campus Forward Awards.
Summer Internship Program
Creating a warm first impression prior to a newly-remote internship program was important to the SAS team, so they collaborated with the IT team to work closely together on creating packages for interns that included laptops and some swag: a SAS culture guide, pens, cups, stickers, and SAS signature M&M’s. The team also put together engaging virtual events like “Fireside chats” with the Executive team, SAS Software certification prep, lunch groups, trivia game nights, a hackathon, and virtual scavenger hunts.
Virtual Recruitment
In preparation for the new world of virtual career fairs, SAS assembled a Virtual Recruitment + Outreach Guide for employee volunteers, which included frequently asked questions and links to supplemental resources. Beyond attending career fairs, SAS recognized the opportunity of virtually hosting events in-house, and put on events such as: Previous Intern Panel with Q&A, Weekly Open Recruiter Coffee Chats, and a 3-part Internship Readiness Series aimed to provide information about the process of applying, interviewing & accepting offers.
Candidate Experience
The SAS team was dedicated to making the process as seamless as possible for students and approaching the candidate experience with empathy. So when using a video-interviewing tool, the team decided to send out the questions in advance to help students better prepare. Additionally, to ensure that their newly designed interview process met candidate experience expectations, the team created a specialized survey to understand the feedback surrounding video interviews and found that 90% of respondents believe that video conferencing technology functioned well and effectively replaced a face-to-face interview.
Diversity and Inclusion
The diverse workforce at SAS brings together unique talents and abilities, inspiring teams to create software that can change the world. To build diverse teams at the entry-level, SAS partners with diversity-focused organizations such as Rewriting the Code and NSBE, and also leverages platforms like Handshake to help their talent team campaign to students across the nation and give easy access to all job postings and events.
