Robinhood’s early career team focused on student engagement this year through new recruiting events and an educational internship program. Students were given insight into life at Robinhood and provided with opportunities to make lasting impacts at the company.
Read on for some of the highlights of Robinhood's innovative approach to college recruiting and why they were named a 2021 Campus Forward Honoree in RippleMatch's Campus Forward Awards.
Summer Internship Program
Robinhood’s university team determined that a remote program was the best course of action to ensure the safety and wellbeing of their interns. Students were given a virtual hands-on experience, and contributed valuable work such as migrating existing fraud detection rules, designing a reoccurring deposits model, and creating a load detection library. Robinhood’s team also provided a strong sense of community and belonging for their interns during this unprecedented time, and hosted interactive events to help interns feel connected to other Robinhoodies. Some events included Learning and Development opportunities like Lunch and Learns, panels with the Leadership team, and mentorship opportunities.
Virtual Recruitment
When Robinhood realized that on-campus events were not an option this season, the university team was determined to find new ways to keep students engaged. The team launched the Robinhood Goes Remote series which included a virtual Open House, office hours, ERG panels, and more. Since the university team was unable to do face-to-face events this year, they tried to keep virtual engagement up by having interactive events using topics that the team sourced from students.
Candidate Experience
To help students navigate this new normal, Robinhood prepared candidates and interviewers with a “Best Practices for Remote Interviewing Guide”. Recruiters also made sure to be completely transparent with students, and made sure they were aware of each step in the virtual hiring process. The University team went a step further about being interactive in the hiring process and hosted weekly Q&A sessions with members of Robinhood’s Engineering and University Team.
Diversity and Inclusion
In order to build a more fully representative workforce, the University team partnered with diverse student groups and organizations and attended events like Tapia and Grace Hopper. The team also partnered closely with Robinhood’s internal Employee Resource Groups (such as Sisterhood, Latinhood, and Black Excellence) to host panel discussions and participate in diversity conferences throughout the campus recruiting season.
