As MetLife adapted to a virtual environment this year, the early career team remained committed to its values of reaching diverse candidates, providing immersive learning programs, and fostering philanthropic partnerships. These values were evident through MetLife’s successful virtual internship, their focus on candidate experience, and expanded partnerships with HBCUs.

Summer Internship Program
This year, the MetLife talent team converted their internship program to a 100% virtual experience. To prepare students, MetLife team members hosted group calls and Technology Readiness Sessions to share updates, ensure everyone had the technology they needed, and set expectations. Additionally, MetLife extended a warm welcome to their summer interns with a special delivery to each person’s home, including a shirt (all interns sported their shirt on National Intern Day), a water bottle to stay hydrated on calls, and a notebook to notate their experiences and knowledge learned over the course of the summer. Once on board, interns were immersed in a program that included a variety of educational, networking, and business-related events such as Professional Development and Career Development sessions, Senior Leader Coffee Chats, and MetLife Foundation philanthropic volunteer opportunities.
Virtual Recruitment
Recognizing the unpredictability of the current job landscape, the MetLife team knew they had to implement an intentional virtual recruiting strategy. The team reached out and worked directly with career services and professor contacts at universities, along with specific student groups. MetLife continued to be active on campus (virtually, of course) by investing in partnerships at schools and attending virtual information sessions, virtual career fairs, hosting coffee chats, and joining panels.
Candidate Experience
The MetLife team is committed to crafting a standout candidate experience, which was reflected in their consistent communication and individualized attention with candidates during the hiring process. Many candidates shared with MetLife that their interactions with the recruiting team left them feeling comfortable and connected to the firm, despite all interactions taking place virtually. By ensuring that candidates are the central focus throughout their hiring process, MetLife created a positive and educational experience that was invaluable to students during a challenging time.
Diversity and Inclusion
MetLife used the virtual world as an opportunity to build and deepen relationships with diversity-focused clubs and HBCUs. The team wanted to build more meaningful multi-year connections with these schools, and worked directly with faculty and advisers to help share MetLife opportunities with those students. MetLife was excited to establish the $1 Million MetLife Foundation Scholarship Program with the United Negro College Fund; the program will support 60 college juniors attending HBCUs. Beyond HBCUs, MetLife partners with a variety of diversity-focused organizations such as SEO (Seize Every Opportunity), GWI (Girls Who Invest), and INROADS, DSY (Development School for Youth).
Congratulations to MetLife for their accomplishments this past year. RippleMatch is proud to recognize MetLife in our 2021 Campus Forward Awards for their commitment toward the next generation of talent.
