Lenovo hosted their first-ever 100% virtual recruiting season this year. Globally, the company has received a record-breaking number of applications for both university openings and virtual event participation. Lenovo now has the most diverse and most qualified applicant pool the company has ever had.
Read on for some of the highlights of Lenovo's innovative approach to college recruiting and why they were named a 2021 Campus Forward Honoree in RippleMatch's Campus Forward Awards.
Summer Internship Program
Despite the challenges COVID-19 presented, Lenovo was able to successfully host 90 student interns virtually across North America. Throughout the summer, interns were able to connect with employees across the globe and were encouraged to reach out to people outside of their team. Interns were also provided with a full calendar of events – 54 in total! – to develop professionally and get familiar with Lenovo’s culture. Outside of their projects, interns gave back to the community during their summer through safe virtual efforts like working with Project Sunshine and Lenovo’s Philanthropic partner NAF.
Virtual Recruitment
Lenovo’s team focused on communication this year, and shared roles via their careers page, social media and RippleMatch. Since the team is unable to meet with students face to face, they shared details about positions, Lenovo’s culture, and program experience via public events on RippleMatch. Lenovo hosted nearly 50 events this season, which included career fairs, resume workshops, coffee chats, speaker series hosted by the company’s Black Employee Resource Group, BLAST, and much more.
Candidate Experience
For some roles, the Lenovo team leverages a pre-recorded video software that allows candidates to answer questions that highlight personal attributes – a part of the hiring process that has been well-received by candidates. Lenovo’s commitment to a positive candidate experience also extends through onboarding: All new hires received a welcome kit that included t-shirts, backpacks, Lenovo ThinkPads, and more.
Diversity and Inclusion
Lenovo embraces their differences and fully believes this is what powers their innovation and fundamental belief in developing smarter technology for all. Lenovo is focused on their top two goals: achieving 20 percent global executive females and 28 percent executives from underrepresented groups in the US by 2020. Their diversity starts with interns, as they are the future of Lenovo. During New Employee Orientation, interns are introduced to Lenovo’s Diversity & Inclusion goals and encouraged to join the company’s ERGs. Lenovo is proud to have 11 powerful ERGs that impact the business and provide mentorship opportunities for interns.
Congratulations to Lenovo for their accomplishments this past year. RippleMatch is proud to recognize Lenovo in our 2021 Campus Forward Awards for their commitment toward the next generation of talent.
