IMC embraced virtual technology in all aspects of its recruitment strategy, from hosting interactive events via Zoom, to sourcing underrepresented candidates through platforms like RippleMatch to sending VR headsets to summer interns to take them on a virtual tour of Chicago, their headquarter city. Even with the challenges of transitioning to a virtual environment, 92% of all IMC interns indicated in their exit survey that they would like to return to IMC full-time after graduation.

Summer Internship Program
Throughout IMC's virtual internship program, interns were matched with mentors and participated in networking opportunities. Interns also had the opportunity to give back to the community by participating in a social impact pitch competition where they selected a nonprofit and made the case for why it should receive a grant from the company’s charitable foundation. To ensure that interns were still able to experience the city they would have called home that summer, IMC Trading sent each of its 50 interns virtual reality headsets and created a virtual tour of Chicago with employees discussing their favorite spots.
Virtual Recruitment
IMC moved all of its fall campus recruiting events to be virtual instead of in-person. The company was able to take advantage of sourcing tools, as well as event management platforms, to help ensure these events ran as smoothly as possible. Rather than holding its typical information sessions or tech talks, where IMC presenters spend most of the time talking, the company incorporated interactive activities like market-making games to keep the audience engaged. IMC also dedicated significantly more time for Q&A.
Candidate Experience
IMC revamped its online assessments this fall in order to properly assess the basic technical skills required for the role, while also giving students some insight into what to expect as a Trader or Engineer at IMC. Another way in which IMC maintained a positive candidate experience is through its exceptionally quick response rate and turnaround time. In addition, all final round candidates were invited to a virtual info session ahead of their interviews to provide them with background knowledge on IMC, an explanation of market making, and fun facts about company culture.
Diversity and Inclusion
When it comes to D&I, IMC utilized tools like RippleMatch to focus its sourcing efforts on diverse candidates that may have otherwise been missed on-campus. They also held diversity-focused, virtual events this fall such as the IMC Diversity Panel. Similarly, they held a number of female-focused events across target universities, such as the Virtual Spotlight on Women in Tech and Trading @ IMC, which had over 100 attendees. Lastly, in addition to IMC-hosted events, the company also sponsored and attended diversity-focused conferences like Grace Hopper, Rewriting the Code, and Harvard WeCode.
Congratulations to IMC for their accomplishments this past year. RippleMatch is proud to recognize IMC in our 2021 Campus Forward Awards for their commitment toward the next generation of talent.
