In an especially challenging year, Capital One successfully hosted a fully virtual summer internship experience for over 700 incoming students that left participants raving upon completion of the program. Going into the 2020 fall recruiting season, the team faced uncharted territory yet were still able to create a candidate-centric experience complete with personal touches and access to intimate virtual events and opportunities.
Read on for some of the highlights of Capital One's innovative approach to college recruiting and why they were named a 2021 Campus Forward Honoree in RippleMatch's Campus Forward Awards.
Summer Internship Program
Capital One redesigned their programming to accommodate a virtual environment for their 700+ incoming Summer 2020 interns. The first time fully virtual program was a massive success with 98% of interns at the completion of the program saying they felt like they belonged, were valued, and their opinions mattered during their experience with Capital One this summer.
Virtual Recruitment
While the Capital One team was already very comfortable utilizing virtual tools, this recruiting season allowed them to push their thinking around how to operationalize an inviting, inclusive, and technology-led candidate experience, creating personal touches that added to the process even when in-person interviews weren’t possible. They pivoted to smaller, more intimate events and opportunities, all of which had a strong value-add for students through access to Capital One leaders or skill building events including their Executive Lunch Series.
Candidate Experience
The Capital One campus team cares deeply about their candidates holistically and emphasizes supporting them throughout their college experience and personal journey. This is reflected in their new mental wellbeing programming and other additional resources, like their 15+ new COVID-specific resources for candidates on the Life at Capital One Careers Blog including articles around Assistance for Candidates Impacted by the COVID-19 Situation and Virtual Interview FAQs.
Diversity and Inclusion
Capital One has a comprehensive strategy for engaging talent from underrepresented groups, which focuses on helping students learn more about Capital One – their mission, culture, values and career opportunities – with the ultimate goal of helping them identify a great role within their organization. Through early engagement programs designed specifically for rising college freshmen and sophomores, Capital One creates meaningful learning and development opportunities for HBCU & HSI students.
Congratulations to Capital One for their accomplishments this past year. RippleMatch is proud to recognize Capital One in our 2021 Campus Forward Awards for their commitment toward the next generation of talent.
