By blending some aspects of past internships with this year’s program, Ancestry’s early career team was able to maintain a quality internship program this summer. An educational and informed approach to recruiting also resulted in an engaging candidate experience throughout the year.
Read on for some of the highlights of Ancestry's innovative approach to college recruiting and why they were named a 2021 Campus Forward Honoree in RippleMatch's Campus Forward Awards.
Summer Internship Program
Ancestry’s approach to their internship program this year involved blending aspects of their past internships with a virtual approach. Living accommodations were not feasible for all interns to join this summer so the Early Career Team pivoted: they provided intern housing for those who were able to participate and those who could not were sent housing stipends. Due to the majority of interns being isolated from one another and unable to work in the office with their teams, Ancestry instituted the Intern Buddy Program which paired each Intern with a “buddy” from the TA team. A member of the TA team would set up regularly recurring Zoom meetings with their assigned Interns to help them feel more connected with Ancestry.
Virtual Recruitment & Candidate Experience
To maintain an ideal candidate experience through virtual recruiting, Ancestry kept up to date on new technologies that would help the team better engage with applicants. Additionally, Ancestry recognized that the shift to virtual recruiting was a large change for recruiters and candidates alike, so the team worked hard to make it a better experience for all. To help improve the experience, the team hosted seminars providing tips and tricks to current job hunters.
Diversity and Inclusion
D&I is a defining part of Ancestry’s early career recruiting strategy, and the company partners with HBCUs and HSIs to reach more candidates. Ancestry’s Employee Resource Groups also play a role in the recruiting process, and School Champions & Ambassadors are appointed at schools to drive engagement. Additionally, Ancestry joined Catalyst this year, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering inclusive work environments, and 55 other organizations in a global alliance to adopt a set of key performance indicators (KPI) to measure and improve diversity in the workplace.
Congratulations to Ancestry for their accomplishments this past year. RippleMatch is proud to recognize Ancestry in our 2021 Campus Forward Awards for their commitment toward the next generation of talent.
