The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
Wesco was selected as a 2023 Campus Forward Award Winner for their unwavering commitment to seeking out and hiring early career talent, their emphasis on diversity & inclusion, and investments in nurturing and retaining the next generation of talent. Please see below for the highlights of their approach to early career recruitment.
Demonstrated Investment in Early Career Hiring
Retirements are expected in the thousands over the next ten years, and some of the roles held by these retirees are anticipated to be backfilled by college graduates or talented individuals early in their careers. As the digital-based distribution model becomes more prevalent within supply chain management and logistics services, having robust talent pipelines filled with highly skilled individuals will be key to WESCO’s success. During the past three years, WESCO hired 70% of summer interns into full-time positions.
Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment
WESCO Early Career Programs have aligned the company’s campus recruiting strategy to be an employer of choice in the Industrial Distribution / Supply Chain industry across the US and Canada. WESCO has done this by leveraging technology, investing into local schools & universities, and creating brand awareness.
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
WESCO’s Business Resource Groups exist to support the Inclusion & Diversity goals of the company in the following areas: (1) building an inclusive culture and positively impacting employee engagement, (2) creating an open forum for the exchange of ideas, (3) providing informal mentoring and professional development opportunities for WESCO employees (4) participating in community outreach and diversity recruiting efforts, and (5) engaging with suppliers, customers, and industry groups to share best practices and partner on I&D initiatives.
Impactful Internship Program
Students graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree are faced with multiple employment opportunities from a variety of employers. WESCO attracts Gen Z candidates through the many engaging responsibilities and assignments given to them during its programs that not only show WESCO what they are capable of, but allows the company to get a glimpse of the talent within. WESCO’s strategy has been to contact students early on in their college careers, build the relationship throughout their college experience by leveraging technology, and offer executive networking opportunities and a competitive benefits package.
Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent
WESCO focuses on a "Never Stop Building" approach through its Summer Leadership Conference (designed for freshmen and sophomores), Summer Internship Program (designed for juniors), and Full-Time Development Programs (designed for graduates). All summer interns have the opportunity to VIP-interview for full-time programs prior to the end of their internship, giving them a fast-track to building a post-graduate career.
