Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting

When the Wellington Campus team realized that on-campus events were not an option this season, the team was determined to find new ways to keep students engaged and continue to create a diverse pipeline. The team attended virtual career fairs, participated in conferences, hosted panel discussions, and utilized Wellington's Business Networks to coordinate more tailored events. Their partnerships with HBCUs and HSIs were a key part of their virtual recruitment strategy, allowing the team to do more smaller, tailored events in classrooms and for students groups.

Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience

When it comes to candidate experience, Wellington has a personal and humanistic approach. Each program has an assigned campus recruiter, who is in charge of the full recruitment life cycle. The recruiter personally reviews all applications, updates students on their candidacy, coordinates all virtual interviews and walks the candidate through the offer details – providing a truly supportive experience.

Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion

Wellington believes that Diversity, Equity and Inclusion enables them to deliver better investment results and innovate solutions for clients. Their DEI strategy aligns with the firm’s mission in that they seek to exceed their clients’ expectations by building the firm’s capabilities to hire, develop, and retain a globally diverse workforce while creating opportunities for everyone to contribute. Recruiting the next generation of talent falls directly into this approach, the Campus team partners with diverse student groups and organizations like NABA, Girls Who Invest, MLT, etc. The team also partners closely with Wellington's internal Business Networks to host panel discussions and participate in diversity conferences. This year Wellington also created the first HBCU Scholars program at the firm, providing HBCU students a scholarship and internship opportunity.

Investing in Impactful Internship Programs

Wellington’s campus team expertly navigated two summers of virtual/remote internship programming. The team provided a strong sense of community and belonging for their interns. They developed interactive programming to help their interns feel connected to the firm and other interns that included aspects such as weekly learning series, social events like virtual baking and game nights, and spending time connecting with their interns during 1:1s and in smaller group settings. Students who interned at Wellington felt strongly that the team and managers were invested in their goals and experience during the internship.

Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent

Wellington goes above and beyond to set up their new full-time hires for long-term success at the company. During the first two weeks, new campus hires go through the firm's Base Camp Development Program, designed to equip them with new skills and knowledge of their clients, industry, firm, and culture while developing a strong, global internal network that will set them up for a successful transition into the firm. Wellington believe that starting with a robust onboarding helps new hires to easily assimilate into their first jobs and into the firm. After Base Camp, hires are provided not only with on-the-job training, but with the building blocks for long-term professional success at the company.
