The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
Waters Corporation was selected as a 2023 Campus Forward Award Winner for their unwavering commitment to seeking out and hiring early career talent, their emphasis on diversity & inclusion, and investments in nurturing and retaining the next generation of talent. Please see below for the highlights of their approach to early career recruitment.
Demonstrated Investment in Early Career Hiring
Waters Corporation is always looking to hire the best and brightest future talent for its company. As it continues to make progress on its Diversity and Inclusion journey, Waters Corporation recognizes that it starts with early careers —- whether that’s interns, co-ops, or entry-level students to bring a diversity of thought and ideas for the company to grow. The company acknowledges that it is critical to continue to expand its early career programs to align with its D&I goals and build a standout program to help Waters continue to deliver benefits for its customers and its communities. Last year alone, Waters Corporation hired 150 summer interns globally in all functions of the business, in both hybrid and remote capacities.
Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment
The Waters University Recruitment team collaborates with the DEI Director, Recruitment team, HRBPs, and business leaders to ensure the program runs smoothly. Waters Corporation participates actively in the Handshake platform for campaigns, intern postings, and career events. The company truly has an omnichannel recruitment approach by being both traditional and nontraditional in the ways it engages with early talent globally — both virtually and in-person — using various digital platforms. For example, in Wexford, Ireland, Waters Corporation has a robust co-op program of at least 50 students with strategically-aligned universities. In the US, the company focuses on all levels of education, such as trade schools, universities, and Ph.D. programs. Plus, Waters Corporation has a global university recruitment project team that meets weekly on intern experience, curriculums, onboarding, offboarding, and recruiting processes.
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
Waters Corporation continues to make progress on its Diversity and Inclusion journey. As soon as an employee joins Waters, they have the opportunity to join any of its four ERG groups, which are supporting communities to help navigate the workplace and help establish a network of inclusion. All of its benefits also start on day 1 of employment —- whether it is free mental health counseling or needing a flexible work schedule. Last year, Waters Corporation hired 150 interns, and of those interns 45% were female, 7% were Black, and 7% were Latinx. Waters Corporation also continues to strengthen its partnerships with underrepresented minority organizations, HBCUs, and vocational schools.
Impactful Internship Program
This past summer Waters welcomed 150 interns across 8 different countries. From supply chain to marketing to human resources, interns join Waters Corporation across various disciplines and teams. These internships provide graduate and undergraduate students with supportive, engaging, and beneficial experiences while building campus partnerships and pipelines of diverse talent. While interns learn a great deal from Waters during their time in the program, the Waters University Program is also an opportunity for internal teams to learn from them. Their skills, educational backgrounds, and diverse perspectives boost and enhance teams across the business and help them solve problems that matter.
Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent
Although Waters has various trainings and boot camp programs globally that help enable the success of hiring interns full-time upon graduation, the company’s main goal is to retain interns by bringing them back for multiple semesters on various projects to ensure they have enough time to fully develop the well-rounded skills needed to make that transition into the workforce. Waters Corporation also has many students that work full-time and go to school part-time with the support of its tuition reimbursement program and flexible work schedules. For example, Waters Corporation has a strong relationship with Delaware Technical School, which is an associates program, and the company employs its students as Instrument Assemblers both full-time and part-time. This allows students to finish their degrees so Waters can promote them to a variety of roles, such as manufacturing technicians and engineers, upon graduation.
