The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
Verizon was selected as a 2024 Campus Forward Award Winner for their unwavering commitment to seeking out and hiring early career talent and investments in nurturing and retaining the next generation of diverse talent. Please see below for the highlights of their approach to early career recruitment.
Innovative Use of Technology
To enhance the candidate experience, Verizon hosts a variety of events using their virtual events platform, which allows attendees to visit interactive rooms with information about the company. This platform gives attendees access to resources, including Verizon’s core values and Credo, 10 employee resource groups, and corporate social responsibility initiatives. Verizon also maintains clear communication with incoming hires before their start date using the Abode platform. On this platform, new hires have access to company news, important updates, and tools to engage with their peers before their first day. Verizon uses technology like this to ensure all interns and new hires are engaged and excited to join in the summer.
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
Verizon is committed to creating pathways to careers in tech for all talent. The company has partnered with HBCUs and HSIs on a variety of initiatives that focus on recruiting and retaining underrepresented talent at the entry level. For example, the team recently refreshed its Campus Ambassador Program, which serves to attract students to a career at Verizon through strategic partnerships with career services, affinity groups, and a skills-focused curriculum. The program also serves to build brand awareness for Verizon among students on different campuses. In addition, Verizon’s Campus Ambassador team collaborates with talented HBCU and HSI graduates to attract top emerging talent into Verizon. This team attends career fairs, provides support for interviews and resume building, and assists in organizing professional events.
Impactful Internship Program
Through its 10-week internship program, Verizon ensures interns are fully immersed in the company culture. During their time here, students work on meaningful projects that impact the business. Verizon also keeps interns engaged through interactive activities like volunteer events, career discussions with senior leaders, and Verizon Leadership Council chats with executive leadership. The pinnacle of the program is an annual in-person event that allows interns to experience office tours, networking sessions, and discussion panels featuring former interns who have become full-time hires. The event also provides interns with an opportunity to meet fellow interns, V Teamers, and senior leaders. In addition, the Campus Crew mentoring program gives campus recruiters the opportunity to host weekly calls with interns to ensure they are having a positive experience.
