The Highlights of Trimble's Approach to Early Career Hiring
Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting
As early career hiring at Trimble has continued to evolve and expand across numerous locations, the early career team has to be smart and resourceful to make the most out of their small and mighty team. One of their most powerful approaches has been showcasing their culture in any engagement they do with an organization or university. Belonging, innovating, and growth are Trimble's core values and they want to be sure that each student knows the type of company they could be working for. The team also focuses on forming relationships with their candidates so they can act as coaches and mentors to them throughout the interview process as opposed to just scheduling them through the process. Beyond that, the team makes sure that early career hires get to connect with other recent hires to be able to talk to them about their experiences of working at Trimble as a next generation employee. At the end of the day, company innovation focuses all around the people (i.e. our candidates).
Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience
Trimble’s Early Career Team understands the need to be responsive and empathetic towards those who are navigating the exciting and sometimes overwhelming journey of beginning one’s career. In order to achieve a smooth and supportive candidate experience, Trimble ensures to respond to all applicants with encouragement regardless of hiring outcomes during the initial screening process. During the interview process, every candidate is given a direct line of contact to their recruiter who is available at all times to answer questions and provide support throughout the entire recruitment cycle. This includes resume reviews, interview practice, and additional professional development advice as requested. Trimble’s Early Career Team takes a hands-on approach that goes above and beyond traditional recruitment. They are always seeking feedback and working to improve processes for the future while building a sense of community and belonging with candidates to reflect Trimble’s inclusive culture.
Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion
In addition to candidates, bringing in diverse talent has been the forefront of Trimble's early career strategy. From expanding their reach of universities that have a higher slate of underrepresented candidates, Trimble has engaged national organizations, partnered with their EDU (Tech Lab) team to set up technology labs at underrepresented universities, attended smaller events with organizations at colleges and universities, and had a strategy that they could eloquently share with their candidates so they could understand the team's approach to diversity. In addition, the team included interview questions around the topic of diversity and its importance in the workplace as well as engaged Employee Resource Networks to attend events, career fairs, and connect with potential diverse candidates.
Investing in Impactful Internship Programs
As the Trimble internship program has just started to take shape over the last couple of years, the goal has been to give interns a real taste of what it is like to work at Trimble. With that has included: meaningful projects that are challenging and push interns out of their comfort zone, network opportunities with leadership and other interns, community service activities, and informal opportunities to gather and connect. With the virtual environment that has impacted most workplaces, the team wanted to make sure that interns felt included in the community at Trimble and they kept that top of mind in any activity that is planned.
Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent
Although a large, publicly-traded, global company, Trimble values its people anywhere in the world. Employees have a lot of tenure, but have welcomed the energy and fresh perspective that recent grads have to offer with open arms. Trimble offers not only a competitive benefits package, but also the opportunity to work with global teams, add value to impactful solutions, participate in community service and employee resource networks, and most importantly, be a part of a culture that promotes a strong-work life balance with unlimited PTO, 12 paid holidays, community service day, and the empathy of leadership to be able to bring your true self to work everyday without fear of judgement.
