The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
The Highlights of The Home Depot's Approach to Early Career Hiring
Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting
The Home Depot Internship Program is an award-winning, paid 11-week internship. Our interns are valuable contributors to challenging and immersive projects that directly impact the business. Interns who join The Home Depot family become part of an innovative and fast-paced team with ample opportunity to grow and connect with peers and company leaders who help provide career guidance and coaching. At The Home Depot, interns are equipped with tools to establish the building blocks for their careers and revolutionize the future of retail.
Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience
The Home Depot’s early career team is committed to delivering a best-in-class talent experience while meeting top early-career candidates where they are and how they want to be met. They strengthened their efforts with schools to provide career development workshops and extend its touchpoints with talent beyond traditional career fairs through its company-wide grassroots recruiting events. They also create mentorship opportunities and put their leaders into classrooms through partnerships with campus career centers and registered student organizations. The Home Depot ensures a best-in-class experience by integrating its core values at each step of the candidate-to-associate journey.
Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion
The Home Depot established the foundation of commitment to diversity and inclusion through our eight core values. Respect for all people and building strong relationships are top priorities for The Home Depot to help maintain a competitive advantage because of its 500,000 plus associates who reflect the diversity of its customers. The Home Depot partners with HBCUs and diverse national and on-campus registered student organizations such as NBMBAA, HBCU Career Development Marketplace, Grace Hopper, AfroTech to drive professional development and networking opportunities that ultimately attract and grow a diverse workforce. Entry-level associates gain access to ARGs and mentorship.
Investing in Impactful Internship Programs
The Home Depot's internship was virtual for a 2nd year and provided an opportunity to show interns how to solve problems, think creatively, and adapt to unexpected situations. From the comfort of their screens, interns met company leaders, collaborated with each other on major projects, and even had game days to get to know each other. The Home Depot offers huge opportunities for career advancement. Of the interns, 75% receive a full-time or returning opportunity. Many of them get promoted within their first two years of employment. The Home Depot also offers a mentorship program that is designed to enable associates to learn from others and pave the way to achieve their full potential.
Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent
The Home Depot's early career team is committed to creating a best-in-class talent experience for its entry-level associates. It begins with the interview process and carries through to onboarding. Entry-level associates are motivated to continue to develop professionally through peer and leadership mentorship, on the job training, access to associate resource groups (ARGs), networking and career mapping. Upon the start of their careers at The Home Depot, career mobility is encouraged to build and maintain retention for the company's future leaders.
