The Highlights of The Clorox Company's Approach to Early Career Hiring
Building an Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruiting
The University Programs Team at The Clorox Company has embraced the virtual space to provide an innovative approach to recruiting early talent. The team has a dedicated group of volunteers (usually past interns) across the enterprise that engage in the recruitment process and support the candidate through the process. While recruiting remained remote this year, Clorox has also moved towards a school agnostic approach by heavily leveraging diversity partnerships to make recruiting more inclusive. To engage candidates without the standard corporate presentations, the team hosted virtual coffee chats, "speed networking" sessions, "ask me anything" sessions, interactive presentations with quizzes and prizes and even case competitions.
Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience
The University Programs team at The Clorox Company strives to create a positive candidate experience that reflects the values of the company and puts the candidate first. Leveraging Clorox's IGNITE strategy and their head, heart, and guts model, the team put people at the center of what they do. A few ways the team excels at providing a robust experience is by including interview preparation presentations and function buddy/culture chats, clear and quick communication, and of course, Clorox swag. Upon getting an offer, the recruiter will follow up with a 1:1 call to ensure the candidate understands what the offer entails.
Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion
The University Programs Team at The Clorox Company is dedicated to equity and inclusion and it is engrained in every step of the recruiting process. With this mindset, the team partners with local and national diversity partnership organizations to recruit talent across the country. At the local level, the team also partners with campus-based organizations to host different events such as game nights, dinners, and interactive presentations. Clorox has also recently built a 3-year professional development program to provide opportunity to rising Sophomores of underrepresented groups called the Future Leaders @ CLX program. During the programming within the Future Leaders @ CLX and internship experience, the Clorox Company offers connections with employee resource groups, mentoring, and cultural competence programming. Employees engage in real and transparent conversations about I&D and gain the perspectives of entry level talent!
Investing in Impactful Internship Programs
Prior to the internship, interns engage in monthly calls to get to know each other as a cohort and get prepped on what to expect before starting. At The Clorox Company interns are individual contributors from day one. Aside from the assigned core project, interns can expect to be fully immersed in the Clorox culture. The Intern program kicks off with a weeklong onsite onboarding program at the California HQ that includes intern connection, leadership development, executive connections, and networking. Throughout the 10-week experience, interns also have the opportunity to participate in socials, lunch and learns, function specific trainings, and ERG events. They are also assigned a manager and mentor with ongoing check-ins and performance reviews. In 2021, The Clorox Company was featured as one of Way Up's Top 100 Intern Program.
Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent
The Clorox Company has a culture like no other and is an incredible place to begin a career as a new professional. The Clorox Company offers structured mentoring for career advancement with Learning and Development (L&D) for each function. While beginning your career at Clorox, many functions offer rotational programs giving exposure to the brand portfolio and a holistic view of the business while developing an agile skills set for career progression.
