The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
Terracon was selected as a 2024 Campus Forward Award Winner for their unwavering commitment to seeking out and hiring early career talent and investments in nurturing and retaining the next generation of diverse talent. Please see below for the highlights of their approach to early career recruitment.
Multi-Faceted and Thoughtful Approach to University Recruitment
Terracon pursues diverse ways to unearth talent. This includes connecting with talent on both broad and granular scales. On a broader scale, Terracon nurtures conventional university ties by actively engaging with professors and students. Simultaneously, employees are encouraged to engage within their local communities, fostering connections through various means. One such avenue includes partnerships with the ACE Mentoring program, where an employee becomes a mentor guiding a student from high school through their college journey. Through the Terracon Foundation, employees can seek grants supporting organizations significant to them. Many of these grants support trade schools and high schools, facilitating access to a wider spectrum of students. By offering scholarships, these grants empower students to acquire new skills, for promising careers - hopefully, at Terracon!
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
Terracon partners with HBCU’s, NSBE, SWE and other organizations attract talent. The Terracon Foundation, Terracon’s charitable organization, has set aside specific funds which support equity and inclusion. The grant requests are submitted by employees who are actively engaged with these organizations. Terracon Employee Resource Groups are grassroots, employee-organized and employee-led groups that support the company’s Guiding Behaviors and offer an excellent support system by serving as the common voice for employee-owners and their diverse perspectives. All employees, from interns to tenured professionals, are encouraged to participate in an existing ERG, or develop one that speaks to their passion. The ERGs, Foundation Grants, dedication to equity and inclusion and partnerships with diverse organizations have helped Terracon both attract and retain talent.
Impactful Internship Program
The impact of the Terracon’s intern program is in the value the company places on all employee, including interns. Encouraged to innovate and contribute, interns are respected and entrusted to work on real projects. The company shows their care and concern by instilling a safety culture that extends beyond the office, becoming a lifestyle for interns. Welcomed personally by the CEO each summer, interns engage in open dialogues, sharing ideas, and voicing concerns. Professional growth is nurtured through cohort experiences, mentorship, informative lunch sessions, and industry conference attendance. At the end of the summer, interns are provided a platform to share new thoughts and ideas with company leaders. With numerous employment options available, Terracon feels honored when interns choose to spend their summers with them.
