With virtual recruiting still very much a part of the recruiting life cycle, Tektronix focused on ways to reach students in creative and impactful ways. Some examples include hosting a school-agnostic event in the fall, focused on delivering guidance about navigating the recruiting experience. Tek has engaged with local organizations at each target school, including SWE, NSBE, SHPE, and oSTEM, working with their leadership to determine engagements that bring value to their student populations. They’ve focused on delivering events that not only attract students to their company, but also add value in students’ professional and academic lives, through workshops, seminars, and industry panels. Tek has also engaged their former, converted interns to recruit and connect with students throughout the recruitment cycle.

Crafting a Standout Candidate Experience

Continuous improvement is a way of life at Tektronix and the University Recruitment Program is no exception. This year, Tek implemented new strategies to attract and retain top talent across the United States, in part focused on delivering a quality experience to candidates. Tek provided clear guidance to candidates about what to expect for their interviews, carving aside time to talk through the company culture, values, and diversity and inclusion initiatives. There is also a focus on diversity-forward interview processes, ensuring that diverse candidates get honest, genuine feedback about the company and culture from interviewers with backgrounds that resonate. Lastly, follow-up and communication is key, with Tektronix implementing follow-up check-ins and regular communications with candidates that have accepted their offers.

Moving the Needle on Diversity & Inclusion

Representation and a sense of belonging are critical when it comes to attracting and retaining diverse talent. That’s why Tektronix has focused on partnerships with diversity organizations like SWE, NSBE, SHPE, and oSTEM, both nationally but even more importantly at the local level. Tek has also built out a mentorship program for students from underrepresented populations, developed recruiting strategies for outreach to minority-serving institutions, and monetarily invested in diversity clubs and scholarship programs at target schools.

Investing in Impactful Internship Programs

At Tektronix, the internship program is a direct feeder to their early career hiring practices, so it’s crucial that their interns have the opportunity to grow and develop through work that has a real impact on the business. Tek interns are supported by a network of managers and mentors, with regular weekly and daily check-ins as they navigate their internship. They stay connected to Tek leadership through the Executive Q&A Series. Interns are grouped together to provide social engagements for other interns throughout the experience, giving them a chance to learn leadership and social skills. This all culminates in a presentation to senior leadership and the network of employees the intern has built through the course of their internship.

Supporting the Growth and Development of Entry-Level Talent

Tektronix knows that early career hires are the future of the company and that providing them with the experiences, support, and development opportunities necessary for them to grow is essential to retaining tomorrow’s leadership. A robust immersion plan is created for each new employee, ensuring that they have the network and training that is necessary for their success. Each new hire works with their manager to create a development plan that tracks where they want to go in the future and how they’re going to get there. A mentorship plan is also developed for each new hire, connecting them to people that can assist them, not just in daily tasks but in career exploration and development.
