Multi-Faceted and Thoughtful Approach to University Recruitment

Stanley Consultants has greatly increased and personalized its university and student awareness through social media. Interns post about their experiences via hashtags, for example #LifeAtStanley-Brittan. Testimonials like these help attract top talent. The firm has had notable success developing long-lasting partnerships with top engineering colleges. By working closely with professors to schedule events such as on-campus lunch and learns, mock interviews and guest lectures, the students become familiar with Stanley Consultants. The firm annually participates in over 20 career shows but often has established relationships with many top students prior to the fairs. Staffing career fair booths with alumni reinforces the benefits of working for Stanley Consultants. These approaches are quite effective at sourcing and recruiting early career talent.

Standout Candidate Experience

Stanley Consultants’ student candidate experience is personable and genuine, fun and casual. Prior to the interview, recruiters learn more about the student’s interests, what they want to pursue, which classes/subjects intrigue them and why. During the interview, candidates hear about the firm’s team structure, diverse award-winning projects and its 110-year history of improving lives. They also learn of the opportunities for professional and community service, continuing education and ways to become active in the firm’s Young Professionals Group. Candidates meet the hiring manager and team members in several departments. After an office tour, candidates are taken to lunch for an open-ended casual conversation.

Impactful Internship Program

Stanley Consultants’ employee lifecycle begins with interns. Each is assigned to transportation, energy, water or Federal project teams and kept engaged with impactful engineering work, site visits and exposure to a career as a consulting engineer. Each is paired with a Peer Connector “lifeline” to help them integrate into the company culture. This year the program concluded with the “Class of 2023” interns gathering for a two-day celebration at the company’s Iowa headquarters. Interns attended an executive meet-and-greet, participated in a team bicycle building competition and connected with other interns. Most importantly, each received a heartfelt THANK YOU for their efforts. Stanley Consultants’ goal is a 100 percent conversion rate from intern to fulltime employee. This robust internship program is helping make that goal a reality.
