The Pillars of an Award-Winning Program
Splunk was selected as a 2024 Campus Forward Award Winner for their unwavering commitment to seeking out and hiring early career talent and investments in nurturing and retaining the next generation of diverse talent. Please see below for the highlights of their approach to early career recruitment.
Multi-Faceted and Thoughtful Approach to University Recruitment
Splunk’s Global Emerging Talent team has implemented key strategies to attract top talent, including pivoting to a primarily school-agnostic event approach, delivering virtual events such as interview workshops, Tech Talks, and career development sessions to a broad range of students. For example, at one HBCU, Splunk executed an “Instagram Takeover” to increase their brand on campus, and in January 2024, Splunk will host a virtual AI Tech Talk to highlight their innovative work and investment in artificial intelligence. Splunk also utilizes a CRM tool that enables the team to create individualized sourcing campaigns to reach their target audience. The team continues to deliver a world-class candidate experience through 1:1 relationships with Recruiters, tailored interview prep, and an efficient and transparent interview process.
Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion
Splunk's early talent recruitment strategy prioritizes building strong partnerships and relationships with numerous HBCUs, HSIs, and on-campus student run organizations like the Society of Women Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers, and the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, among others. Splunk also partners with national non-profit workforce development organizations, HireMilitary and Year Up, to better recruit underrepresented emerging talent from non-traditional backgrounds. Further, Splunk’s Global Emerging Talent team works closely with their Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to participate in year-round events geared towards recruiting talent from underrepresented groups. In addition, in 2020, Splunk introduced the annual Splunk HBCU Scholarship Program which, to date, has awarded 35 exceptional students from HBCUs who demonstrate leadership in their field of study each with $10,000 scholarships.
Impactful Internship Program
Splunk’s year-round, hybrid internship program (referred to as the “Splunktern Program”) provides interns the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in Splunk’s culture and gain hands-on, real-world experience. For example, some interns have had their names included on Splunk patents, while others have had the chance to speak at Splunk’s annual user conference, “.conf.” During the program, interns are afforded flexible work schedules, volunteer activities, and a formal mentorship program. The Global Emerging Talent team further augments their experience by offering additional engagement opportunities, including Executive Tech Talks, professional development workshops, social events, networking hours, and a social impact project competition, “Splunk for Splunkterns.” The Splunktern Program consistently receives positive feedback from intern classes, including 98% who ‘would recommend Splunk as a great place to do an internship!’
