Innovative and Multi-Faceted Approach to University Recruitment

In 2022, Slalom launched an early career team focused on building relationships at universities throughout the country and connecting those students to various Slalom offices. Slalom sees the value of in-person events — from info sessions to diversity panels, workshops to tailgates, Slalom is on campus! The company also understands the breadth and convenience that virtual events offer and Slalom is supplementing its on-campus approach with virtual career fairs, resume reviews, and interview training. Slalom has recently created a handful of workshops to help students land their dream job. Throughout these events, students will get to know not only recruiters, but alumni and Slalom leaders as well.

Overarching Commitment to Diversity & Inclusion

Slalom’s Early Career team, Talent Acquisition, and ERGs partner to create inclusive & immersive experiences to attract, engage, and enrich diverse talent. Leveraging a strategic approach to partner with HSIs and HBCUs allows for unique programming to reach diverse audiences at scale — such as Consulting 101, Pitch Perfect, Talk Data to Me, Case Competitions, and Slalom in the City to introduce students to the industry and hone industry-agnostic valuable skills. Slalom sponsors IDE-focused conferences such as Grace Hopper, NBMBAA, and NSBE. In 2022-23, those sponsorships will expand to Ostem (Out in Stem) and ALPFA as well. Mentorship programs with an emphasis on representation from a variety of cultural backgrounds, focus areas, and levels of tenure are included in the intensive Consulting Foundations program. Finally, insight and feedback from early career talent influences Slalom’s commitment to social equity and community by driving service projects, offering grants, and funding conference sponsorship in support of ID&E across the globe.

Impactful Internship Program

Slalom gives interns the opportunity to get real-world, hands-on consulting experience, engaging with an actual client building impactful solutions. Interns have built everything from an emergency communication application for a big box retailer, to a solution aimed at broadening the donation engagement for a national non-profit supporting those impacted by cancer. Slalom offers an extensive onboarding experience to provide a foundation to build consulting skills, an executive connection series, consultant coffee chats to build their network, an intern give back day such as volunteering at the Atlanta Community Food Bank to build their impact, and outings such as heading to a Yankees Game that builds in the fun. Slalom also uses a lean learning model for continuing education throughout the program with a combination of hands-on practical training, classroom-based training, and self-guided computer-based training. Interns can also connect with senior leaders in the organization through a 1:1 connection series along with casual coffee chats.

Growth and Development of the Next Generation of Talent

Slalom’s early career hires have an opportunity to go through Consulting Foundations Experience. Consulting Foundations is a unique experience designed to support your understanding of the business, the way Slalom approaches consulting, and the important role you’ll play in helping clients reach for and realize their vision. The journey begins with an orientation in your local market, followed by Global Consulting Foundations, where new associate consultants from all across Slalom come together to learn, practice, and develop foundational consulting skills. Then you'll continue to grow your skills through a blend of on-the-job training, small group coaching, and independent learning designed to set the stage for a long and fulfilling career. This cohort program provides associate consultants with learning experiences, tools, networking resources, and mentorship needed to be successful in helping clients achieve their desired outcomes.
